Massive Fedex fail: faking delivery attempts!

I have a slightly better postscript to report.

After my last email to FedEx and a reply on Twitter to their social media rep expressing my disappointment at their lack of solutions and stating I was done doing any business through them, they decided to “elevate” and start a formal complaint internally, whatever that means. Shortly thereafter, the local manager called me and offered to change the driver who does deliveries to our address, for one more attempt and for all deliveries going forward. I decided to give them one more shot to get it right.

The next attempt still required a few calls to the manager to get it right, but it did arrive. New driver seems better. Will allow a trickle of Fedex deliveries in the future to see if they can earn back some trust, but obviously a lot of damage has been done, and I’ve already made arrangements to reroute other business through UPS. Not sure why it took so long and so much excruciating effort on our part to get to a new driver assignment, but it did finally get there. Honestly, I think it was the Twitter part that led to getting action - so for those who think Twitter is useless - not true! (Have heard it’s good for getting airlines to fix issues for you too).

With the connections we have via this board someone here must at least know someone who knows someone in a high enough management position at FedEx that would be very interested to see this thread.

Surprised here. The time I called the main Fed Ex headquarters and talked about the missed deliveries I got some action. I told them I no longer bought from anybody who shipped FedEx because of this. Customer non-Service bascially told me if it was Home or Ground I was SOL. The headquarters folks were interested.
If you get the guys name, truck number or tag number and call the main headquarters, I bet you would get action. They are still the worst even if improved.

Twitter rocks for things like this. Would you rather be in a big fat phone tree or in point to point contact with someone. I have seen things fixed mighty quick on United because of a tweet.

I tweeted to FedEx a link of this thread in hopes they would see it.

I think this delivery attempt falls under failed.

I was just about to post that. Another fine moment in FedEx history.

FWIW, we have 2 girls that work here to monitor packages, and check those exceptions. At least once a day, sometimes more, one of the girls is fighting tooth and nail with someone at FedEx. She said leading cause of failed attempts= DOGS. Apparently skirts come as standard uniform at FedEx.

i know that this solution won’t work for all of you, but doesn’t this argue for having your wine delivered to a business address, where they can’t credibly pull this crap? i have all of my wine delivered to a ups store…fedex can’t very well claim no one was there for an attempted delivery, i have never had a problem.

Well, Ian, if you were confronted with a barking dog who for all you know might bite… would YOU deliver the package?

Im not excusing any of the above, but people who have gates on their yard or dogs around or who expect the delivery person to go to the back door need to get a grip. I expect the delivery person to come to the door, ring the bell, wait a reasonable but not silly time period (30 seconds or so) and then either leave the package or not depending on whether there’s a signature required. I don’t expect them to go through barking dogs, deal with locked gates, go to another door or wait 5 minutes.

There’s also the option to have FedEx packages re-directed to a FedEx Office location, where they’ll hold it for you.

Yep, I do this every time now. Haven’t had a single problem with this option.

UPS Store mailbox. Couple hundred a year, never have to worry about signature-required packages, never have to worry about packages stolen, never have to worry about delivery attempt shennanigans.

This is the real solution rather than fighting with FedEx. I’ve used both a UPS Store in Fairfax, VA and, later, really great place in DC for deliveries. Everyone ships to DC and not taxes collected either.

You don’t even have to have a UPS Store mailbox to do this. I send wine packages to my local UPS Store with my name, phone number and PR (Package Receipt) listed on the label. They call me when it comes in, I can pick em up and all they charge is $5 per box.

I don’t understand what the benefit is for ‘fake delivery attempts’. Too lazy to carry the wine?

Depends on the store. Some do this and some don’t. My place in DC charges $2.

After reading this thread earlier today, I came across this story and thought you all would get a kick out of it:

I have had nothing but good service from FedEx ground…I guess I am the exception…

They have a schedule they have to keep

Still don’t get it. They stop at the house…fill out the notice…walk up to the door and put up the notice…they could have delivered the wine in that time.

FWIW…as a shipper of wine, I have had far better experience with FedEx than UPS. I’m sure YMMV.
