Massive Fedex fail: faking delivery attempts!

They pull this stunt in Canada as well. I’ve had several instances where I’m sitting at home, waiting for a delivery with a clear view of the door and the tracking will update with a note saying they attempted delivery. No delivery notice on the door of course. To further add to my irritation, they refused to re-deliver, so I had to go pick it up (45 minute drive).

FYI, this FedEx Ground is closed on Sunday and Monday. While open on Saturday, they only deliver packages requesting Saturday delivery and not redelivers or regular packaging. What you can do is have them drop it off at the FedEx just off 43 and go pick it up. The Richfield oone sucks. I try to use 2nd day air if possible, just so they wont handle it. Eventually, I just got a box at the UPS Store to accept my packages and it works like a charm.

BTW, i often caught our former FedEx driver just putting stickers on the door without even trying to deliver. Especially when there were multiple packages. I am guessing he didnt feel like carrying them. My UPS guy was great though.

Sounds like FedEx might be better at delivering door tags than packages.

This is timely. Yesterday I was set to receive two packages from FedEx at the same address. Both were signed for and delivered. 11 minutes apart. Unfortunately, one was delivered to an entirely different office building with a different address and suite, and a different business name. I’m not sure how that is even possible. If you simply checked the delivery address against the location you would see that you are handing over 48 pounds of liquid love to the wrong effing person. Luckily we tracked it down and hassled FedEx until they agreed to go get it back and re-deliver it to me this morning.

As for the fake delivery attempts, I had that issue frequently with FedEx when delivering to a home address a couple of years ago. We had a 1300 sq foot one story townhome. We would be sitting on the couch by the front door reading a book or something. No knock. No doorbell. Home all day. We’d leave the house to go grab dinner and boom, there’s a failed delivery notification. What? I notified FedEx after it happened about three more times. Finally, I tracked my shipment and waited in the house all day for the delivery truck to roll up. I had about 2 cases of wine being delivered. I heard the truck and went out the side door and circled around to the front. Low and behold, there was the delivery guy with no boxes. Just a pen and his failed delivery notification. We had an argument, I called FedEx, and he never delivered on my route again. We literally had a new FedEx guy the following week. I’ll give them credit for fixing the problem. It was ridiculous.

I guess then I’m confused why they would call Monday saying it would be delivered that day if they are in fact closed? I actually moved to Mentor in September & there’s a FedEx-Kinkos just a couple miles away that have been good with having packages redirected & held there. I think that’s going to become my norm, don’t even worry about the local delivery guy. Again UPS has never been an issue.

Wow, some crazy stories. I am a lucky guy I guess. My FedEx ground (green EX) guy rocks. I was recently expecting wine on a Friday and was not at home, so I got the window sticker. I figured I was good since I would be home Saturday. My guy typically come in the afternoon, so about 10:30 I ran up to Lowe’s Hardware, but I still put a note on my front door that said “will be back at 11:30”. While shopping my phone rang and it was FedEx saying “hey I was just at your house. I will be in another part of town at 11:30, can we meet somewhere now?” So I paid for my things and hopped in the car and he met me at the gas station on the corner to give me my package.

I don’t have any pending deliveries, but if I get one soon, he will get a nice Christmas card.

Yep…just had an instance with UPS where a package was suppose to be delivered on Fri…I get an exception saying they forgot the package at the facility…will deliver mon…on mon, the delivery guy shows up when our golf course is closed(after dark), no delivery…next day, same thing, after dark, closed…the third day, same thing, but my dad saw the truck down the street after locking up, and chased it down…I got my wine!

Not a good time of the year right now for deliveries…

Buzz - I always knew you were a man of means, but your own golf course… [wow.gif] [cheers.gif] [worship.gif]

This thread is a real eye-opener. I generally buy locally, so I don’t contend much with the shipping companies, but this seems like a massive failure in systems that were once viewed as marvels of the business world.

FYI, if you want a REALLY terrible shipping experience (not available for wine, so far as I know), try the UPS-USPS collaboration where UPS handles it long distance and then gives it to the post office for the final mile. I bought something on Amazon that was supposed to come in a week. The tracking showed it en route with UPS, arriving in New Jersey after a couple of days. Then the tracking trail ended (i.e., it went into the hands of the post office) … and didn’t show up at my doorstep for another two and a half weeks.

I have gone round and round with GSO and have quit all lists except for WilliamsSelyem that use them for delivery. THey dont show up the day they arrange for delivery and they do not have a set schedule so its like waiting for the cable guy. Nothing like waiting around all day for a no show. To top that the delivery driver shows up in an unmarked pickup ith a camper on the back. I thought at first it was an improv for a broken down vehicle but the same guy has come back twice. Classy!

Alan,

I think it is worth complaining. Be sure to document dates and specifics. Your story is good, but hard data is better than anecdotes for complaints. Good luck!

BTW, I am astonished by the pattern of incompetence. FedEx Ground clearly needs a management shake-up.

I’ve also seen multiple posts here this week about FedEx damaging recent wine shipments.

Yep, this is a nightmare. In addition to the extra long wait times, I’ve filed 2 lost package claims since this collaboration began.

Thanks Brady - I am in touch with one of their twitter reps. Have given them some specifics and encouraged them to look at the longer history of shipments to my address. It should all be right there in their historical tracking. I bet they could probably even confirm if the guy has a higher than average rate of ‘customer not home’ entries, and of complaints. Beyond what they reach out to me for after this point, I won’t do much more; will simply avoid all business with them at some point. I will report back on outcome, and maybe point the rep toward this thread too if appropriate.

Two solutions, one tape a signed authorization to your door. If it is still there, he didn’t come. Two, install a camera preferably motion controlled and it will take less then a minute to show no one came to the door.

Gonna be tough to show something that didn’t happen, especially with a motion-activated camera. [snort.gif]

Another FedEx Ground fail here. Package supposed to be delivered Monday, tracking noted “Customer not available or business closed.” This is at a law firm with a receptionist there from 8:00 to 6:00. Since it’s in a big office building, my guess is that was his only delivery to the building that day and he didn’t want to deal with it.

With a motion activated cam, yes. But if you record video that’s timestamped for the day it would be easy to match up the time on the camera with the supposed delivery time as recorded at Fedex and show that no one came to the door.

As a practical matter, I’d insist on UPS shipping if this kept happening to me.

UPDATE ON MY ISSUE:

FedEx admitted delivering my wine to the wrong address. Apparently it got shoved in with 35 other cases of wine, all of which were delivered to the wrong location, and had to be re-routed.

I called to concierge at the other building, who identified the person to whom the wines were re-directed.

He informed me that the wines were re-directed to a storage facility. He will not be able to meet to go through the 36 cases of wine until Monday at 10:00 am.

DAMN YOU FED EX, I WANT MY JJ PRUM!

Add me to the list of people who have gotten repeated fake delivery attempts with FedEx Ground. Guess it’s easier to carry a little missed delivery tag up our front steps than it is to haul boxes of wine.
