In an IG post he said he is resigning because: “ I no longer believe in what I am doing. There may be a longer answer at some point, but not today.”
It’s too bad. He was a serious reviewer.

Yep. Mark was serious and coherent. Interesting to hear/read that longer answer.
I guess in the meantime Luis Gutiérrez will be providing some help in Portugal, but I would say he is already too far stretched out with Spain, Argentina and Chile.
Link to post? All I could find was this:

It’s the third photo. Not sure why it’s out of order, but it’s the one with the statue of a person breaking free.
We all knew he would realize that banning my beloved avatar was an atrocity, and that eventually even his own conscience would rebel, years later.
Indeed, found his reviews highly detailed and very useful. I always valued his take on Greek wines particularly.
That is not even remotely funny.
I thought it was funny.
Me too
He posted the same announcement to Mastodon.
Squires should start a wine forum.
Clearly there’s a need.
I stopped paying attention after the Squires board went completely off the rails. Did he have a redemption arc as a reviewer? I seem to recall when he was hired, it was during peak eBob train wreck times and it was seen as cronyism?
Maybe he’s got the time now to resume his role as a moderator? @ToddFrench you hiring?
I always liked Squires and his writing. Including on the Squires / Parker board. He was kind of caught between Parker himself and the emerging decentralized wine internet on that board. Tough position to be in.
In honor of the Chairman, I think Todd should move this thread to the Travel forum.
Curious choice of pronoun - “what I am doing” instead of “what they are doing”.
I felt he did a fine job covering Port. But I’m not sure how much normal enthusiasts’ consumption might be changed by ratings/reviews in that category. Perhaps the Roys, Andys, and Erics of the world explore Port; but I sense that the rest of WB - if they even pay attention at all - just buy the shipper their family was accustomed to, or first found enjoyable in their youth.
The local Portuguese houses would be overlooked by me if Squires had not raised awareness.
Perhaps he can now be convinced to post over here?
How old is Mark? Is he retiring? Does not sound quite like that from what he wrote, but there comes a time for many people (including me) where what was once exciting seems stressful.
Because he enjoys unbridled abuse?
