Margaux recommendations

I’m hoping to find a couple bottles of Margaux that I can drink on a more regular basis ($20-40 price range). I’ve had several bottles of Margaux from various producers, but the less expensive bottles, while enjoyable, were not exceptional.

Can anyone recommend something that is priced to drink on a regular basis, but good enough you wouldn’t hesitate having it with a nice meal?

Margaux for $20? Tough. Try Siran. Kirwan for a bit more.

What state are you in?

The selection in TX will be different from the selection in FL which will be different from the selection in MO which will be different from the selection in OH etc etc etc…

I figured that price range would be tough. I have a few bottles of 2009 Siran in transit so we’ll see how that goes. Worst case, I’ll just have to accept that if I want Margaux it will require opening one of my nicer bottles.

In that price range, if you get lucky you’ll find some Prieure Lichine. More likely you’ll have to settle for something like D’Angludet or Du Tertre, maybe Cantenac Brown. Good luck!

Kirwan, du Tetre, Prieure Lichine are a great start.

I’ll add to the Prieure Lichine, and add Ferriere

Siran.

The 2000 is drinking very nicely right now.

I agree with du Tertre and P. Lichine (both are less than $40 usually if you buy futures).

I’d add Boyd Cantenac, though it often needs more time to mature.

Cantemerle is Haut Medoc, but it adjoins Margaux and is often described as having a Margaux- like style.

Thanks for the recommendations.

While I was looking for the bottles recommended I stumbled onto a 18L bottle of Prieure Lichine. First thing that came to mind was, “will this fit in my EuroCave?”, followed by, “I should buy a Coravin”.

Angludet is a good wine in that price range. Often underestimated, the 88 lately was drinking very nicely.

Well Rare has got some weird stuff from Palmer.

Can’t seem to deep-link, but it’s

And I suppose you could order some futures on the 2017s, from Premier Cru, for delivery circa 2025.

If you get lucky Jaugueyron has minuscule production, but is fantastic, sandwiched between Margaux and Palmer.

I would recommend Chateau La Tour de Mons for consistency, readiness, availability, and price in the $20-25 range…Gary

I have a soft spot for Ferrière, Clos des Quatre Vents, Clos du Jaugueyron, Monbrison, and La Tour de Mons.
