Marcassin

Let me say this- we opened a ‘12 Marcassin last night. Sublime is the word. I don’t care if they are eclectic, and I pray John’s Heath improves. I will patiently wait and buy my allocation. If any of those unhappy with the silence want to share their allocations, I’m in.

My post was not a “cruel joke”. I was told the info by a person from another prominent winery. I cannot confirm or deny what I was told. Marcassin is one of my favorite wineries of all time and Helen IS my favorite wine maker of all time!

Too funny, we opened a 2012 on Saturday for a friend’s birthday.

  • 2012 Marcassin Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (4/20/2021)
Pop n pour. Plenty of color and fruit concentration here. Aroma of sweet oak. Fruit forward, lush and mouth coating. Still some edgy tannins hiding in the slick feel. Not bad.

Is there a contact for the winery? I have moved since I signed up for the list. Don’t want to miss a possible offering.

I sent an email to the last contact I had there (months ago) and finally received a reply today. I was concerned, as many here are, that our last offer was for the 2012 Pinot and it is 2021. My Chardonnay supply is running dangerously low…

“Thank you for your patience. Rest assured you remain a member of our mailing list and will be updated with our offering soon.”

I got an email back from them saying they updated my address. Hope I get an offer. Probably been on waitlist 5 or 6 years at this point.

I got the same reply this week. Cause for some degree of optimism?

Does Anyone have contact email or phone number for marcassin? I moved recently and the website is so outdated there is no member section or account info to change. Please help

I reached out to: info@marcassinvineyards.com (plural)

and got a prompt response from: orders@marcassinvineyard.com (singular)

Hope this helps!

No response from that email either :pensive:

Another update. I was at a wine event at Mayacama Golf Club over the weekend, and Marcassin was there (pouring the 2012 Pinot which is amazing). I spoke with a woman who worked there – it was extremely loud and I didn’t want to monopolize her time, but I did ask about when a release letter would be going to the list. She said “three weeks.” She further said that John’s health was good. I am certainly relieved by that news!

I have no reason to believe she would be anything other than truthful, but I think we’ll all feel confident in release timing only after we have a letter in our hands. Here’s hoping that will be soon!

I could be misremembering since it’s been so long since the last consumer-direct release, but my recollection is that Marcassin generally sent out offerings during shipping season (e.g. spring or fall), but never right before the heat of summer. Again, could be totally off base but I seem to recall it was always a rather quick order to ship turn time vs. say SQN where you buy it/pay for it and wine shows up 6 months later

David, My memory matches yours–Marcassin is usually received about 8 or so weeks after order. That said, I don’t recall a nearly 3 year pause in offers either. I suspect that more than just the 2013 vintage, which was reported to be a very light production year IIRC, will be included in the upcoming offer.

Ok, someone please opine what they have done with the vintages since 2013? Is the juice in barrels (unlikely) or in bottles and if it is it cant be that hard to just ship it??

Marcassin has always held wines back longer than most anyone else. When they think the wines are “ready” they would offer them. Sometimes life gets in the way and there are atypical intervals.

I’m sure the wines were bottled when appropriate and have been resting quietly and happily. It is nice that we haven’t had to pay and wait ala Harlan etc.

When there is an offer I will happily buy.

I see a letter from Marcassin in my incoming mail delivery for today. We should all hopefully have answers to this years old mystery sometime later this afternoon!
