Mandolin recommendation?

My mandolin broke!
Plastic just cracked, but the blade was still sharp.
Anyway, I need a new one.

I am thinking to get one made with a metal back this time.
I don’t want to pay some crazy amount, like the ones for $200-300 at William Sonoma.

Anyone have a good solid recommendation for decent price?

My Benriner, though plastic, has lasted forever. Also I feel like thats the brand you see when someone is using one in a professional kitchen on TV. Seems to be industry standard.

I have this OXO metal/plastic version and like it - (might be better prices out there)

I also like the OXO and see they have a (mostly/all ?) metal version

We’ve had the metal/plastic version for more than a decade, although we’re not heavy users

My 25 year old Matfer (stainless steel, pricy version) works great and every couple of years I have the blade sharpened.

+3 on the Oxo… but the guard can be a bit frustrating at times in terms of its ability to grip the food and maximize usage of the item you are slicing.

and you can usually find it at Bed, Bath & Beyond and use one of those 20% off coupons that show up in the mail every week…

I have a de Buyer Ultra that I like, a little pricey as well.

Another vote for Benriner. I don’t know how much or how you use your but this thing was <$25 and has lasted forever (at least 15 years).

I had one of these.

Used it for years, then it just snapped.

Thinking of this but not sure how it would be with a stand as far as functionality. I liked the old one because I could be fairly mobile with it…but I didn’t like that it snapped.

De Buyer here. Thought it was the cats pajamas. Then I went to use it. $250.00 device I’ve used 4 times. Sell it to you for $50.00.

Went back to Oxo and Pampered Chef tools ranging from 12-25 bucks. When dull pitch.

At $60 for the one with a stand you can get a handheld one and be all in for well under $100…ultimate flexibility.

I lied. I have a Viper. Still sucks.

I have a Gibson A3 mandolin and a benringer mandoline. Love both.

I guess I should ask this - do any of you prefer a stand over hand held?
I liked the hand held but want to know if there are advantages of the one with a stand.

Mine is a stand and for doing a larger quantity and basic ease of use/stability I like it. But I’ve thought about getting a hand held for when I just want to do something small and/or quick.

Another vote for Benriner here.

I have a fancy pants metal one like this. I rarely use it, unless I have a really big “job” to do, which isn’t often, or when I want to julienne. Otherwise, I use the metal/plastic OXO. Sooooo much more convenient.

The metal one is a pain to clean.

I have this one and it is extremely functional and well made.
