Maldives - no wine?

Will go to Maldives next month with the family staying in a water villa  so starting to think about what special wines to bring, but… a google search show the depressing news that you cannot bring wine, all luggage will be checked and wine will be confiscated - is this really the truth?

The wine list at Angsana Velavaru, does not really have the good stuff, and prices are high… seems that I just have to accept a trip without special wine experiences  Or do you see any loopholes?

Yes it’s illegal to import wine into the country.

There’s a duty free on arrival but I don’t remember anything good.

Our resort had some nice wines but not cheap.

No loopholes to bring anything in. If there is anything particular you want that they don’t have it can be worth contacting the resort in advance as they may be able to arrange things - however, it will be expensive and also there is some risk, because even with these end resorts transportation and storage is not easy to maintain conditions, I’ve had to reject a couple of bottles previously.

Enjoy the trip though - it’s such a paradise you probably won’t miss the wine.

Yeah this is not possible. It as Mike says illegal to import any sort of alcohol into the country!

IIRC they also scan your suitcases in front of you as you leave customs, as they do in the UAE (where wine is allowed but limited to 5 bottles a head).
