Madeira

Hi all:

Been going to Portugal for the last 23 yrs but my first trip to the island of Madeira. Did some searching around and it seems most of the last action posted is a little older. Anybody been in the last year? We’re all set for tastings. primarily looking for food and any unique experience recommendations. Also if anybody has any cool winebar/nightlife spots to recommend that would be great.

Thanks.

@Otto_Forsberg was there recently.

Thank you!! I only looked here instead of the whole site.

ftlop has madeira trips too; no idea if you could piggyback on one of their tastings if your time overlapped on the island.

Did 4 days in Madeira end of April. Haven’t had time or energy to write a report but had visits with ownership at each of the madeira players except borges.

Very exciting and memorable trip. Stayed at Savoy Palace and dined at both Ill Gallo d’Oro and Desarma (Ill Gallo d’Orro in top 2 best food experiences of my life and I have been to a handful of 3 M star places).

Had a plethora of Madeira’s going all the way back to 1811 with nearly a dozen or so pre 1900 and all wines were OUTSTANDING!!! I love Madeira but this trip had me fall in love all over again!!

Beautiful island, amazing people and hospitality. If anybody ends up scheduling a trip and wants any tips, feel free to dm me.

Thanks for sharing. Madeira might be our trip next year. Is it too much to do try and do both Madeira and the Azores in one shot on a 10 or so day trip?

It really depends on what your intentions are for visiting. If Madeira wine is a focus, I don’t think you need more than 3 days so visiting both would be reasonable.

I have frequented the mainland but never been to the azores.

Pico is great. Wines are fantastic and the vineyards are unreal.
