This is the way. IMO, neither actor here is being particularly generous w/ the other. Each has had an opportunity to show some grace, but decided to pass. Totally within their rights, mind. But yeah, you could’ve gotten in touch with Reid, Daniel. Probably would’ve been a more fortuitous play for future allocations too.
I don’t think you grasp how Venmo refund scams work, which I give an abbreviated overview here. It would be incredibly poor judgment to send money back via the Venmo platform to someone they don’t know. The transaction profile Daniel Walsh is trying to force through is the standard template for the refund scams that happen all day long on marketplace platforms. Don’t fall for it if you are solicited!
I definitely do not have a dog in this fight, but it truly sounds like an unfortunate situation and just really bad timing in regards to the allocations/ wish-lists being granted. I totally get how both sides would jump to ‘worst case scenario’ and that red flags would be flying across the board, but it does seem like Daniel admitted it was his mistake and was asking Rajesh if he could do him a favor with a cancel request to the winery…and then things just spiraled from there.
For what it’s worth, i have not personally met Daniel but have interacted with him many time here and on Instagram and he seems like a really good dude, and i would be VERY surprised if he had any intentions to 'scam ’ Rajesh.
Again, i get how things can easily escalate when it comes to money (and wine, ha!), but hopefully you two can come to terms with a mutually acceptable solution. Or…you could always just sell your extras to @Robert.A.Jr ! He loves the wine and can easily afford the extra bottles
Rich I only do En Magnum these days, 750s are so bourgeoise.
Opened my first bottle of the 19 on Friday and gave it 2-3 hours in the decanter. I don’t drink a lot of Napa wines, but this one I liked.
- 2019 Tidings Cabernet Sauvignon Moonridge - USA, California, Sonoma County, Moon Mountain District (8/2/2024)
Dark fruit, cassis, savory, a bit of rosemary and maybe a hint of menthol, earth, and red plums on the nose. Good acidity with well structured but relatively smooth tannins, more dark fruit, black cherries, forest notes, and blackberries on the palate. Good finish. Well balanced and not at all over the top like so many Napa Cabs, the fruit is ripe but tart enough to keep the wine fresh and interesting. Would love to see how this evolves with time. I’d hold for 10 years or more. 93++ (93 points)
Wonderful note. Glad you liked it.
Potato potato
Anyone know when the next release will be? I just opened a 19 and want more…
I believe Reid will be sticking with “normal” July releases (fall shipments). ‘21s were released earlier this summer so ‘22s should be released next July
Anyone pop one of these recently? Scanned some CT notes, but little sparse.
Release is March 25th.
5 wineries in the Title, which are you referring to?
Tidings
Surprised no posts yet but email this morning next release is Mar 25. 22 Moonridge Cab + 22 Bien Nacido X-Block Syrah
The offer is now active on the website. I’m skipping the syrah this year, in for 3 cab.
Hm - not for me its not!
As to Tidings - I think their Bien Nacido syrah is a spectacular version of a cool climate Cali-syrah.
3 Cabernet and 1 Syrah for me.
I know wineries are not making money off of shipping, but wow - $48 to ship a 3 pack from Sonoma to Seattle. It’s especially galling that shipping rates have spiked while service quality from shippers has declined over the same period.
Believe it or not, that is cost. UPS and Fed Ex have really raised their prices. I absorb tens of thousands in ship costs that I do not pass on to my buyers. In fact, it is my second largest cost for my winery after buying fruit. Also remember that many states often cost $300 per year in wine ship licenses. If a small winery ships 15 shipments per year to state X, that is $20 per shipment in costs for the winery, per buyer. That cost is eaten by all wineries. And bottles do not pic and pac themselves into the ship boxes. Staff is paid to create those shipments. It all adds up. And it is getting worse. Here is my cost per state. I charge $40 flat, no bottle limit. So imagine what I am eating on 12 bottle shipments to the east coast.
