I’m going back on forth if I want to order 1 of each or not, that shipping is a killer even though I’m sure it’s at cost.
Where did you see the shipping cost? I was only able to wish list and shipping was listed as “TBD”.
I almost emailed to ask but didn’t think that was worth bothering on what I’m sure is a busy day
It would appear that they have a four tier allocation system (at least). I was only offered one Cab and two of each Syrah, but there wasn’t an option to Wish List anything. From what I can tell, there is a larger allocation group, a small allocation group with wish list, a small allocation group with no wish list, and then wish list only. I don’t fault the winery as only ordered one of each last release.
It was about $50 for 3 bottles Ground.
This is my second order and I opted for my full allocation - 1x cab and 2x of each syrah. I had wishlist options for 1 of each. After the quick sell out last release, I jumped right on this.
3x each here, matching last year’s order
I find these wines to be unique, well made and well priced. Having had the wines from the previous release, there are no substitute wines that come to mind that are comparable.
The last time I felt this way about a mailing list was when Paul Gordon was still releasing his Halcon Syrahs. Although these wines are stylistically different, where Paul’s wines were more classic while Reid has a dash of modern while maintaining freshness.
That said, I’d splurge on the shipping if it meant I could get a bottle or future larger allocations. But that’s just me.
Excited to compare the White Hawk and Bien Nacido syrah with their Herman Story equivalents.
I took my full allocation last release and was offered 3x + wishlist this time. I ended up taking 2x of each so hopefully a few folks get their wishlists granted.
I took my full allocation this time, which was 1 Cab and 2 of each Syrah. Hopefully, my wishlist for the 2nd Cab gets granted, otherwise, my OCD is going to go bananas once I open a case with 5 bottles
They should be very different based on picking decisions - Russell From loves bigger, bolder wines that generally have much higher alcohol levels than what the Tidings folks are doing.
There are plenty of others sourcing from White Hawk to compare with as well - a few to note would be Cordon (down here in Santa Barbara County), Bedrock (though not sure they do a straight White Hawk but I know they source from them), and a few others (is Lillian still doing one?)
Cheers
Just got an email that my wish list requests were granted! So exciting. I guess a number of people ordered less than their full allocations!
Same, took full allocation and got all wish list.
Same here. Got an extra Cab so 4+3+3.
I wonder what the point of wishlist only-allocations is, if they give wishlist requests to allocation holders before going through the wishlist-only people.
I’m not sure this is true. I was a wishlist-only person as I missed the initial offering. My wishlist items were granted. I’m thinking they are granting wishlists on a first come first served basis, but I could be wrong.
Ok good to know! I thought it was just the allocation people who also got their wishlists so far.
$50 for a 3-pack outside the west coast is about right. Shipping wine is just a brutal cost for wineries. When gas prices go up, UPS raises the price, When they drop, they don’t lower it.
Less than $80 for 9 bottles cross country. The main issue with shipping costs these days is the logistics which has a fixed minimum cost.
It’s great to see everyone supporting Reid. I’m sure he’s excited and grateful for the support. I was able to sit down and drink these Wines with him last month. The two syrahs Are very different. The BN was more earthy, lower alcohol, and more food friendly. Like the cab I think it’ll benefit from time. The Whitehawk was an absolute crowd pleaser right out of the gate.
