Lunch

Wonderful lunch at Hentley Farm with the girls.

2003 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut: The nose is expressive from the get up with notes of candied fruits, toast, almond, truffle butter and brioche. The palate is kind of like '03 red Burg. There’s a bit of a hole in the mid-palate and acidity is low. It certainly doesn’t lack any freshness and has quite a salty finish. Seriously good with fresh oysters.

2011 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne: At first it was very forward and exotic, with a riot of guava and custard apple fruits. After an hour in the glass it tightens considerably and shows its steely line and more reserved lemon fruit personality. Great depth and length.
1979 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Echezeaux: It smells of a rose garden, all black earth, sweet petals and decaying plant matter. The palate is silky and gains depth with air. There’s some liniment, leather, Hoisin and beef stock too. It builds through the palate and finishes with a tart cherry snap.

Happy Christmas to all.

Cheers
Jeremy

Had '79 Jayer Echezeaux in Singapore last week and it showed similarly, though a bit more tired. I think the bottle may have been slightly beaten up. That and your note on the DRC above, as well as the word of a bug-loving friend, leads me to believe I need more 79’s in my cellar.

Thanks for the notes!

Nice staff Xmas show. Better wines than most staff shindigs at this time of year!!

Nice one mate! Shame we couldn’t get there, maybe next time…

We had a '79 DRC GE a few years ago, and that wine was a cracker…a really good drink!

Jeremy, gotta love the understated Subject line.

Sarah, the '79’s and '80’s in general are very good if you can find well stored bottles. They certainly live in the shadow of '78.

Kent, the girls have to put up with me all year. It is only fair that they drink well at Christmas time.

Looking forward to drinking plenty of good Burg with you in '17 Paul.

Lunch is very important Rich.

Cheers
Jeremy
