Lunch with Father Saxon

I’ve got a bottle of 2001 Domaine Taupenot-Merme Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Bel-Air (a little known 1er that sits directly above Chambertin-Clos de Bèze made from vines planted in 1973) open for Steve today. I’m still working him over to the dark side.

I’ve also got a major surprise bagged that I’m hoping will blow his mind. I’ll post notes after lunch.

Is it the bagged version of this?

I love that SNL skit. [rofl.gif]

I cannot believe this thread has been hijacked by our very own Site Admin…

I’ve never encountered a wine board like this one.

What a breath of fresh air!

Great choice! How’d it show? Where’d you get the '01?

It was really nice. The nose was wide open from the beginning but it took the palate about 2 hours to come around. I even opened it about 2 hourse before lunch. It should be killer in another 5+ years. I got this bottle from Scott Wright in Oregon (Scott Paul).

I’ll open the 1999 Charmes Chambertain for you the next time we meet.

I also sprung a 1988 Columbia Crest Cab on him that showed amazingly well. Both of us scored it 91 points and for Steve it was completely blind.

Others we opened included the 1995 Karl Lawrence which was showing very well as usual and a 2004 Domaine Huber-Verdereau Pommard 1er Cru Les Bertins that was closed shut.

Sounds great! What a lunch!!
