Lunch at SantaCafé

No tasting at Susan’s today, so we took the opportunity to enjoy a late lunch at SantaCafé. We started with a litre of San Pellegrino and ordered an Isole e Elena Chianti. We also ordered our usual appetizer of fried calamari with a chile-lime dipping sauce. The Chianti was a 2005, instead of the listed 2006 (first time in a restaurant that we’ve gotten a wine older than that on the list). It was rich, spicy cherry fruit with good acidity and a nice spicy fruit finish. It was good with the calamari, as well as our mains of soft-shelled crab with a light sweet/sour sauce, sun-dried tomatoes, and a spinach/arugula salad for Carollee and an open-face tuna melt with a nice baby arugula salad for me. The lunch was very nice and we finished by sharing a strawberry-rhubarb fool with a double espresso each, when we had finished the Chianti.
