Looking for great restaurant recs in Lugano, Verona, Milano, and Zurich.
Doesn’t need to be Michelin 3* but great food, flavors, wine list, etc.
Thoughts?

In Zurich Igniv would be the fine dining place to go (2 Michelin star) and has a great selection of Swiss wines. The other fine dining alternatives would probably be Widder Hotel and the hotel bar generally has a good selection of wines by the glass or the Dolder which has a number of dining options. For more classic Zurich food (but with a bit of international influence) and ambience you could try Kindli. A little outside the main city centre (but only a few stops on a city tram) is Weisses Rössli which is very nice.
Lugano there are some fabulous grottos - Grotto della Salute and Grotto del Cavicc are very good. Alternatively Ristorante Al Faro is a very classical seafood restaurant.
Where do you stay in Zurich and Lugano - might also trigger some other recommendations.
Thanks The View in Lugano and La Reserve in Zurich. I love La Reserve in Geneva so I thought I’d try it in Zurich.
The View is nice, we stayed there a couple of years ago - we actually went to Al Faro that time.
In Zurich you also have Brasserie Baur next to hotel which is quite iconic, I always enjoyed lunch there when I was working in the city.
Good to hear - we picked it for the spa ![]()
Loved El Brellin in Milano: Milan Restaurant Recco - #29 by Zachary_Ross
We liked the traditional Milanese cooking and ambiance in this pretty restaurant in the Navigli neighborhood in Milan. We had dinner back in October last year.
My favorites in Milan are Ratana and Trippa for modern Milanese food, reservations go extremely quick at Trippa so look well in advance. For more classic Milanese food I also love Trattoria del Nuovo Macello, it’s out in zone 4 but worth the train/tram ride out there.
Trippa Milano for modern cuisine was good the last time we ventured. Make sure to bring your statin or whatever your preferred cholesterol meds, though.
Booked one dinner at Ratana. ![]()
A’Riccione for fish.
Dongio for Calabrian local place (cheap ,fresh pasta, do do wine list),
Giovanni for elevated vegetarian food (1* Michelin) in case you need a break from heavy food.
i havent been to ratana since 2015 but loved it then. well priced wine list if i recall.
recent milan trips, our best meal was at rovello 18…by far. love this place. lunch in the courtyard outside at il salumaio di montenapoleone is a must for us every time were in town. we went to trippa once in 2016 and loved it but it has become very popular. id go if you can. and if you do, go for aperitivo at mom cafe nearby…great crowd of locals gorging on food and drinks that spill onto the street.
i havent been but bar paradiso seems like a must. check action bronson’s milan episode for more.
lastly, Bastianello for gelato was glorious. just know their small is quite big.
if you must have dinner with a view of the duomo, i thought Giacomo Arengario was way better than it needed to be. not cheap though!
Second Trippa in Milan, also Masuelli for traditional food, Confine for pizza , Cantine Isola and Bar Paradiso for wine bar.
In Verona Bottega del Vino and Locanda quattro cuochi
