We had been going to Ben Benson’s for Christmas Eve for many years and then it closed. We went to The Palm on the east side last year, and it was a big disappointment. I thought about Michael White’s new place, Costata, but we really want a traditional style steakhouse. Sparks was a thought, and I haven’t been there in at least 10 years, but I haven’t heard any recent reports. I’ve been disappointed with Keen’s steaks the few times I’ve been there. While Benson’s may not have had the best steak in the city, they did a terrific au poivre, and they had great sides, and had great service and a good wine list. I need a replacement.
We love Sparks
Old world atmosphere .
They have a great wine list but do not allow BYO.
Delfriscos is good too but we like Sparks better. Two different style places though,
Steve - I was there for lunch back in May and I loved this place. Everything was just right: atmosphere, steak, sides, and a really nice ladies room! What’s not to like?
An asssociate in my office has a steak eating club like we have wine groups and they go out once a month for a big steak dinner and a rotating group of steakhouses. He says Quality Meats is the best. I have not gotten there yet. Corkage - I just called - is 2 bottles maximu, $35 per bottle - can’t be on their wine list.
You can be assured of that! I had a petite filet that had lots of flavor, but without a ton of fat to fight against. That wine should be a good match for what is going on there. Decant if you can.
