Looking for Recs for backfilling QPR BDX

After falling into the WB rabbit hole over the last year and having since bought mostly 19/20s and subbing some 22/23s I feel I should be backfilling some more mature vintages … so I am looking for recommendations on chateaux / vintages considered good QPR.

Style wise I lean more traditional than modern, price range should be in the 30-100 range, <30 is welcome, >100 is considered but not looking for 1st growths pricing.

Not looking for vintages/chateaux maturing in 20+ years being >60 and all

This is a good thread: https://www.wineberserkers.com/t/first-bordeaux-purchase-your-budget-recommendations

Thx Max, and yes, I had followed that thread closely already, will re-read tho. That said I was hoping for some additional recs in the slightly higher range >50<100 which wasn‘t a topic in that thread actually.

Probably hoping to learn about good vintages / prices on i.e. Brane-Cantenac or Branaire-Ducru or thereabouts. There is a lot of wisdom spread over WB but its tough to find the threads.

I.e. I have been digging out some great recs on for me trophy wines like 2004/2011 VCC or 2014 LMHB from the likes of @William_Kelley and @Robert.A.Jr and was hoping for similar on those QPR gems versus the more value oriented ones like Lanessan / Sociando.

Lots of 2016 still in the market at very sweet pricing. I’m still backfilling into this vintage.

D’Issan
Duhart Milon
D’Armailhac
Langoa Barton
Clos du Marquis
Ferriere
Haut Bages Liberal
Lagrange
Cantemerle
Clos du Clocher (kinda modern tho)
Moulin St Georges
Jean Faure

Just to name a few. I have bought all some in large quantities.

I think Lanessan and Sociando are in that 50-100 range for back vintages like 2000 and 2005 at least in the US. I know Brane is in the 125-175 range for those vintages.

Somebody would probably advise looking for 2014s from those producers, I just dont have any experience with them.

Some of my recent backfills in your stated price range:

2004 Langoa Barton
2012 D’Armailhac
2011 Magdelaine
2005 Lanessan
2012 Sociando
2000 Ferriere

I’ve recently had all of these and would buy again.

I also picked up at auction close to a full vertical of the very sexy Sociando Jean Gautreau Cuvee from 1995-2010, with an average price of under 100.

Of those already mentioned, my top 3 choices would be Langoa Barton, D’Issan and Branaire Ducru. They are consistently well-made and have broad drinking windows.

@Robert.A.Jr has some very good recommendations on 2016’s. A few others that we have enjoyed are Tronquoy Lalande, Gloria and Lafon Rochet. Enjoy the hunt!

Robert, Ed, any recs on older vintages? The Langoa / Branaire / Sociando / Issan / Tronquoys are the ones I bought in the 19/20 vintages (Tronquoy in 16 too) - are there more specific recs on older vintages to look out for? Just ordered some 14 Sociando the other day.

If you can find Sociando in these vintages, it is worth a pull, especially if you can find the Jean Gautreau Cuvee:

2010
2005
2001
2000
1996
1995 - first year of JG Cuvee
1990

I had a 2000 Pavie Macquin over Christmas that was awesome. If you source it’ll be at the top of your range though.

I really like right bank wines so there are a ton in that price range that I buy.

Chateau Fleur Cardinale
Chateau La Gaffeliere (and their second label Dame/Clos)
Chateau Pavie Macquin
Chateau La Croix St. George
