The time has come, getting ready to part with at least 500 bottles in our cellar. Many collectible. Looking for recommendations as to best way other than WIineBid, please. Thank you.
There are some pretty big threads on this in the main forum. It really comes down to the value of the collection. If most bottles are under $100, most folks are going to say WineBid like me (and I’m happy to refer you to Paul Swanson if you like - he is great to work with).
Just something I have noticed with Spectrum Wine, it seems as though their auction prices have spiked quite a bit on auctions since Wine Exchange was purchased.
I buy alot of bottles from there but have all but stopped as the prices have gotten so high. Seems like stuff is still selling though.
Def not as cheap as it used to be.
Thank you. This time, I’m looking for somewhere else, anywhere else.
Give K&L a call, I suppose?
Ask around and see who offers you the best deal. Zachy’s generally offers pretty good deals in my opinion, but I’ve never sold with them. Acker is another option. I find their prices to be better as a seller, especially if you have at least $100k low estimate. Some friends have sold with HDH and like them. But really it comes down to the deal and their estimates and what’s likely to net you the most.
Uh oh, bad experience? Interested in details.
You couls try KLWines, they seem to run a good operation. As others have said, spectrum is hammering higher these days, but not sure theyre up to the same place as KL or WineBid. Unicorn is an option, too, but they dont seem to like cheaper bottles (surprise).
If you are looking for help with cataloging and managing the process, you could reach out to Maureen Downey at Chai. I see she’s helping some prominent WB’s with the sale of a large cellar currently.
She helped me with a modest mouse downsizing many years ago too.
you need to make an inventory of what you have. Then I’d send to 2-3 sources. Depending on what you have there may be different options.
Also take into account your location. Consider shipping costs.
Selling off your Disney memorabilia?
Heritage is great. They are also very reasonable about shipping and commission, esp if the wines are highly collectible.
Unicorn Auctions is another option. They have a weekly spirits auction and a monthly wine auction.
