WHAT WE DO AT LF IF YOU ARE NOT YET FAMILIAR:
Liquid Farm focuses on earth and mineral driven Chardonnay’s from the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, adding to the mix a bone dry Rosé of Mourvédre in 2011 and a few Chard bottlings from Santa Maria in 2013. In 2014 we went where we said we’d never go…and made our very first red wines, two unique Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noirs. In 2015 we worked with two vineyards from Sta. Rita Hills (Radian + Sanford & Benedict) and two from Santa Maria Valley (Bien Nacido + Solomon Hills) creating two unique expressions of Pinot: aptly named SRH and SMV.

NOTES ON THE NEW 2016 #PINKCRACK (aka: our Rosé)
As per usual this lady is bone dry and racy with lots of minerality. Very Provence-esque. 95% Mourvédre 5% Grenache. Vogelzang Vineyard. To be bottled Feb. 3rd. We have been sold out since Summer and cannot wait to have this back in our glasses.

NOSE: Chalky, stone fruit, salty sea air, earthy, orange zest, white pepper

NOTES ON THE NEW 2015 ‘SMV’ PINOT NOIR
2015 marks our 2nd vintage doing what we said we’d probably never venture to do - make red wine. Specifically Pinot Noir. This bottling is a blend of the renowned Bien Nacido Vineyard & Solomon Hills Vineyard from the Santa Maria Valley AVA (hence, its concise name: ‘SMV’). These are two vineyards that we have had the pleasure of working with via Chardonnay from since 2013. These Pinot’s are built to age but, will unravel themselves for enjoyment later in the year. Or decant and enjoy over a few days. Ask fellow Berserkers for their impressions of the Radian and Impromptu we made in 2014 to vet 'em if you’d like.

Jame’s Pre-Release TN’s:
NOSE/PALATE: Earthy, cherry, leather, raspberry, meaty, mushroom, peppermint
OVERALL: mild tannins, medium plus acidity, a hint more feminine than the ‘SRH’

NOTES ON THE NEW ‘SRH’ PINOT NOIR
As mentioned above 2015 marks our 2nd vintage trying our hand at Pinot. We’ve been honored to work with Radian Vineyard (in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA) via Chardonnay for many years and for our first ever released Pinot in 2014 ASK BRIG. In 2015 we were stoked to have a bit of beautiful Sanford & Benedict Vineyard Pinot offered. Who would turn that down? No one. That’s who. The ‘SRH’ is a harmonious, structured and (in a good way) “moody” (think fog at Big Sur) wine. It will reward with even more patience than the ‘SMV’ which is a bit more open now.

NOTE/PALATE: Rose petal, violet, cranberry, blueberry, clove, spice, tobacco, sassafras, meat, cinnamon
OVERALL: mild tannins, medium plus acidity, a bit more masculine than the ‘SMV’

This was the 2014 vintage

Blind: Guessed Arcadian PN, close. After I said I was convinced the fruit was from Santa Rita Hills Chris guessed Liquid Farm and he’s never tasted it before. That’s crazy, who does that?

Nice bright cranberry color, very good clarity. Sparkles in the glass. Lovely tart red berries and cranberry flavor, reserved. The structure is very angular and rough at this point, it certainly required more air time than we permitted. My goodness, everyone really liked this wine, it’s superb. Heck, I thought it was Arcadian, enough said. Amazing as this is the first Pinot noir vintage for the LF crew.

Side note: 2,500th tasting note on cellartracker. The madness continues.
