Limited production is a relative term

I saw this bottle at my LWS the other day.

I have never considered 22,000 cases to be “limited”, but I guess compared to 100,000 cases it is. They are obviously marketing to the buy and drink crowd vs. the buy and cellar crowd, but still.

Sort of like “Private Reserve” in California.

Same with “Limited Edition” prints. All editions are necessarily limited because it is not possible to produce an infinite amount of the object in question.

yeah, I hate when i’m told this at tastings. Most of us who collect wines have bottles where there was only 1 or 2 barrels made.

We do?

You mean like first growth Bordeaux?

Or Krug

With a limited edition print they could keep printing it year after year and end up essentially unlimited. I guess wine is limited per vintage once you use up the grapes, but the intent with this bottle is to make it sound special.

Sure do, I have several as I patronize a lot of producers who vinify small lots. YMMV

Limited to 22,092 cases because 22,093 would be way over the top.

Limited compared to the regular cuvee of which they make an ocean full.

As Seinfeld said, it’s Limited to the number they can sell.

I just wonder how many are really made, many producers’ numbers are complete bs

You simply can’t maintain the same quality level once you get to 22,093 cases.

Wow, 25-50 cases is miniscule. I don’t doubt that you have some wines that were made in such small quantity, but I’d bet that a lot of us do not.
