Let's talk Chambolle

Andrew I am sorry that my above posts caused confusion and misunderstanding.

I am saying the the ( of more than 1 oz ) in a big balloon burgundy glass …will develop…for sure and will be fast.

What I was saying there was not enough *volume of the grape-juice…to develop into the…stage of ** sign of instability or closing-downing or completely muted ***

My points were just to point out why Hugh Johnson…was reporting in his book : ***DRC are essentially wines for very long bottle-ageing. What is surprising in that they often show sign of instability. ****

For example…if there were only 6 pours (of more than 4 oz each ) …instead of 12 pours ( of just 2 oz each - since there were still wine left in each bottle). The 13 bs of DRC may show : sign of instability as many of the wines were of certain age.

I also understand completely …why such a DRC event - 13 bs of DRC wines shared with 12 persons. It is what we called : an wonderful event under the title : Clash of titans.

What I am trying to convey my message…it is to have lots of fun and seeing tasting wines from so many different vintage years - but to draw of conclusion with 12 pours of a 0.75 l bottle with bottle age…maybe misleading.

It is unforeseeable for 13 bs of DRC wines shared with only 6 persons…many of them…would be êrhaps wasted at the end of the event.

Just my 2 cents and thanks for your comment. [thankyou.gif]

Aged DRC red in zalto bdx glasses !!! [truce.gif]

I’m a huge Bertheau fan. I think his wines are not only the archetype of Chambolle but also drink well young but age beautifully as well. Other than ‘04, which is basically for all producers the worst vintage of the last 25 years at least, I have found them almost uniformly successful, with only a rare bottle anything but at least very good, including even tougher vintages like ‘06, ‘13, ‘14, etc.

I thought they showed fine in the bdx glasses and that it would’ve been hard to have so many burg stems on the table.

Michael - thanks for the beautiful photo - and much appreciated all the details of the event.

I was just pulling your legs…

The Zalto Burgundy glass is ridiculous and their Bordeaux glass has basically the same shaped bowl that most other manufacturers had previously sold as a Burgundy glass.

Ehem. This is a thread about Chambolle. You DRC and Rousseau people should go start your own thread.

Jay…totally agree. Sorry [oops.gif] [bye.gif]

Eh this is WB. You could make a post about which Chambolle AC to open and ppl would recommend DRC.

Back to Chambolle (thanks Jay) - where are people on 1er Cru CM? I am quite partial to those just south of Bonnes Mares (Les Fuees and Les Cras) over others like Les Gruenchers or Les Feusselottes.

My overall favorite 1er Cru probably is Roumier Les Cras.

I like Baudes a lot; cras/fuees are good, charmes is somehow now underrated.

OK…now let talk serious about : Chambolle.

First of all and legally… AC Chambollte does not list the grape : chardonnay. In other words, there is no white village and no 1er cru white in Chambolle.

The whole Chambolle AC is small in that 94 ha for the village and 61 ha for 1er cru. The largest 1er cru is : Les Charmes at 7.3 ha and surprisingly the 2nd is Les Armoureuses at 5.40 ha and then Les Fuees at 4.3h ha.

If one looks at the map, Les Armoureuses and La Combe d’Orveau (2.38 ha ) are right beside Musigny; whereas Les Fuees and Les Cras are closer to B-Mares - on the other side of the Combe.

My 2 cents is : it really come down to the style of the producer with whom you would prefer.

Price-wise is another story.

Clavelier may be the best value in the village

People? You mean you would, right?

Pretty much my favorite village. A bottle of Groffier Chambolle Les Sentiers in the late 90s cursed me with a love burgundy.

I was informed that he made the best La Combe d’Orveau 1er cru if your could find it [cheers.gif] .

i would not doubt it …as it is just below B-Mares and Groffier is the one largest owner in Les Sentiers ( 25%). .

As Michael was talking about * the best value in the village* - which he means to say : Chambolle !

I got curious and I checked Wine-Searcher : Chambolle-Musigny 2018 by Roumier is listed at CA $482 !!!.

Sigaut sentiers is nice

Friends,

Thev reaction to this thread is overwhelming and quite rightly so. To my amazement there was someone who did not like MUSIGNY??? Has the world gone bonkers? has Trump really brainwashed atoo many Americans?? Sorry just skip this last one but better join me in a near future when me and certain friends once again devour Musigny by ROUMIER? CD Vogüé and Mugnier. Heavenly bliss. Bonnes Mares better??? Roumier’s sometimes…!!!
