Let's talk Chambolle

Thanks, I might try a '21 if I can find it for the right price – hopefully it will be closer to those early-aught wines. I do miss Bertheau.

And following up on Mark_E’s impressions, I generally got the sense that the '20s red Burgs were pretty dense and not particularly terroir-transparent, albeit from a relatively small sample size (though a '20 Jerome Chezeaux Les Chaumes was pleasantly red-fruited).

I didn’t taste at Bertheau, but I know a few people that did and have been told that it’s a really good vintage for him. Take that with all the grains of salt you need, given that I have zero first hand knowledge
However, I do think that 2021 is a pretty good year for producers who have historically pushed ripeness and for whom 2018-2020 were perhaps more challenging. Berthau’s 2018s were particularly ripe.

Nice! I’ll try to pick some up. I’m very fond of Bertheau. And '21 in general seems more in my wheelhouse than the '20s.

93s are fully mature
00s are mature and fully resolved, but not my fav.
01 Fuees is spectacular right now.
08 CM AC is showing well.
05 Batons is starting to come around. I’ve drank so many…but the CM AC is indeed too young…forget about the 1er for a while.
10s are young, but the style is remarkable. The Batons was best on day 3
13 Baudes is drinkable, but a bit young…not as crazy young as you might think.
09s CM AC are drinkable, but some are showing a bit of heat.
12 CM AC are a bit young, but drinkable.
08 combottes is on fire.
11s have some pyrazine in some bottlings, but they are drinkable.
98s - wasn’t a fan.
01 Cras is almost as brilliant as the Fuees.

I could go on. I think I’ve drank 138 bottles of Barthod since I’ve started tracking them.

‘05 Barthod CM village was indeed still young based the bottle opened last month, but shall reach maturity plateau fairly soon though, easily in the 1er Cru level.

I own a selection of '99, '05, '08, '09 & '10 Barthod pre crus.

Would you recommend opening any of the above vintages for a try ?

Thanks.

The 2010 Beaux Bruns was undrinkable earlier this week

ive been holding some 2012 les cras from barthod and have no idea when to open. i figure 2024-2025?

I have a few from 2010 Bertheau that are still not ready. I’ve not been a fan of the style (quite fruit-forward) when I’ve tasted Bertheau wines. Maybe the Bourgogne is where I found the most joy. For me, in Chambolle my go-to for the style that I like is Jouan followed by de Vogüé & H. Lignier.

Opened a 2014 Gerard Raphet Chambolle-Musigny last night - quite resolved, soft and fine, nice floral overtones, silky texture. Ready to go.

I would be curious on broader opinions for 14 reds and if they are starting to wake back up. Planning on giving some 1er Crus a go next year for their 10th bdays

I’m giving my 1er/GCs another 10 years. '14 HN CM village is drinking ok with some air.

Wife came home today with king salmon so I opened a 2020 Felettig CM VV. Crazy good for a sub-$50 wine. Really delicious, punches way above its class, only lacking a bit mid-palate that a better, and more expensive, PC would have. I’d like to thank someone on WBers for recommending this one but I can’t remember who unfortunately. Really happy I bought a half case.

Interesting as I just popped a bottle tonight as well. It was the follow-up to the 19 HN Bourgogne. Both are crushable, the HN has more acid and precision, but the Felettig is just lovely and rich in a wonderful way. The '19 CM VV is better, but the '20 is very good.

'20 was quite a bit too ripe/fat for my taste. Very good quality though.

Had a BONNES MARES 2005 (C De Vogüé) last night and it was wonderful. I, however, preferred the CLOS des LAMBRAYS 2010

Sent it too soon : I, however, preferred the CLOS des LAMBRAYS 2010 and Nuits Vaucrains 2010 (R CHEVILLON). Seems like 2010 will be an absolute favourite in my cellar. Can’t wait to try CHAMBOLLES from HUDELOT-BAILLET 2010 ? MUGNIER’s georgeous CHAMBOLLEs and -for more structured wines albeit not without great finesse- ROUMIER’s LES CRAS, AMOUREUSES and BONNES MARES and even MUSIGNY. if this last wine is on par with the brilliant 2009 I will be in for another treat.

I’ve had a few each of the Charmes and Cras, and both are already excellent. Haven’t touched the BM yet.

Anyone know what’s going on with Tawse Musigny?

Auction bids were frothy on the 2018 and WS Pro shows pricing at $4500+++?

I also just realized I haven’t gotten an allocation since 2019. I guess it became a cult wine at some point?
