Deiss Altenberg de Bergheim 2001 : 18/20
Perfect balance for this beautiful complanted sweet wine paired with foie gras.

Puffeney Arbois Classé X 2003 (10 ans de voile) : 18/20
Powerful, pure …

Bertani Recioto Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Superiore 1970 : 18/20
Still so young (blackcurrant), fiery (some thought vintage Port). The 1962 (19/20) was a summit in june 2018. The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Bertani 2009 great also in march 2019 (18,5/20).
Porto Dow’s silver jubilee 1977 : 18/20
Serene evolution. Thought Colheta (but the rancio is light).

Alvear Montilla-Moriles Palo Cortado Viejisimo Abuelo Diego : 18/20
A really strong Palo Cortado, made with Pedro Ximenez grapes (thought Jerez Oloroso VORS Tradicion, made with palomino fino).

Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Monprivato 2009 : 18/20
Thought Burlotto Monvigliero. Classy but lighter and less spectacular than in a recent Mascarello verticale.

Dans une série de haut niveau, ce vin s’avère réellement exceptionnel, très complexe (subtile intrication de terre, rose, framboise, kumquat, épices, réglisse, résine, châtaigne, …), doté d’interminables saveurs fraîches. La sève et l’équilibre sont époustouflants, comme évidents (l’évidence des vins de classe mondiale). Puissance délicate, enivrante.

Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Bèze 2005 : 18,5/20
A great pinot noir, not fully ready.

Rayas red 2007 : 19/20
Again, the same incandescent monster (like 2005, which was proposed by some guests).

Dal Forno Amarone della Valpolicella 1994 : 18,5/20
A wonderful raisined wine, with great personality.

Porto Taylor 1997 : 18/20
Semt more powerful than Dow’s 1977.

Agree 2007 Rayas is quite special.

So glad to hear these thoughts. People whose palate I generally trust have slagged on the 07 as being atypical ooze monster … a product of the vintage. I don’t have much Rayas but I do have several bottles of this. What is window of best drinking in your estimation?

This 2007 is already very pleasant and we all guessed the exceptional red wine that is Rayas (I also rated it 18,5/20 in june 2020 and had the comparison with the corpulent Rayas 1995, in the uncle’s different style).

I would say 2025 and more … (I have not opened Pignan 2007 yet).

Btw, in june 2020, I tasted the wine with organic wine lovers, found of mainly light, fuzzy stuff … they of course hated the powerful clean elegance of this Rayas 2007 :slight_smile:

Côtes du Jura Pignier vin jaune 2006 : 17/20
A wonderful « vin jaune », very delicate (it has not the powerfulness of the Arbois Puffeney Classé X 2003).

St-Emilion La Gomerie 2000 (merlot) : 17,5/20
Merlot and a wonderful surprise for this “vin de garage” (Beauséjour-Bécot), concentrated/balanced, ripe/fresh, still very young. Forget Pavie 2000 …
Willi Schafer Graacher Domprobst Riesling spätlese versteigerung 20015 (13/16) : 17/20
Classic high class savoury expression, light but dense, as expected (thought Prüm Graacher Himmelreich spätlese 2007).

Gaja Langhe nebbiolo Costa Russi 2011 : 17/20
A powerful wine, neither modern no traditional. Barolo or Barbaresco style. Cinchona, smoke, tannins and acidity, length. Elio Altare was proposed.

Clos des Lambrays 2013 : 17/20
An elegant fruity, flowery and spicy pinot noir, Grand Cru level. Perhaps Rousseau ?

Liban Musar blanc 1992 : 17/20
Not easy to guess. With these aromas of encaustic, citrus, mushrooms and a good acidity. Around the table, I heard : Clos Joliette, Vouvray Foreau, Coulée de Serrant, Bussaco, Laville Haut-Brion (sémillon), old chardonnay (my choice, the wine is actually pure obaideh).

Trimbach Clos Ste-Hune 1998 : 17/20
An excellent Clos Ste-Hune (whereas the two last bottles - at home then at the domain with Pierre Trimbach - were suspicious, with oxydation). Exotic, pure, long (thought Boxler Sommerberg 2002).

Foreau Vouvray Réserve 2002 : 17/20
Very good evolution (aromas ans strenght) for this sparkling chenin. Of course, a possible confusion with a “blanc de noirs” is always possible.
Champagne Jacquesson dégorgement tardif 738 : 17/20
Dégorgement en juin 2019. 96 mois sur lies, base 2010. 61% chardonnay, 18% pinot noir, 21% pinot meunier. 33% de vins de réserve. Extra brut (0,75 g/l). Bien en place, serein, encore jeune pour exprimer toute sa complexité.

I don’t have enough experience with Rayas to speak to its aging curve. That said, it’s so delicious if my remaining bottles weren’t offsite, they’d all be gone.

Would be surprised if it could get much better than it already is, but again my experience with this wine is limited and haven’t tried any older examples.

About older wines, don’t forget that the style changed (for probably more elegance) when Emmanuel replaced Jacques Reynaud (who died in 1997).

Peter Lauer Riesling sekt reserve extra brut 1984 (disgorged 2017 – AP9/17) : 15/20
Plus de 30 ans sur lattes (9,5°). Insolite, cette méthode champenoise de la Saar rappelle avec ses notes de citron confit, de cire, de menthe et de fumée et son acidité prononcée une gueuze belge de Cantillon.

Dominio del Aguila Albillo Ecologico Vinas Viejas 2016: 16/20
Réduit, peu expressif, assez indéchiffrable à ce stade. La forte acidité citronnée peut orienter vers le Jura. A revoir dans 5 à 10 ans.

Wachau Nikolaihof Riesling Vinothek 2002 (16 ans d’élevage) : 16/20
Acide, assez simple, austère, balsamique. Pas facile d’identifier le cépage. Pensé au blanc de Château Simone.

Dom Pérignon Coteaux champenois BdB Château de Saran nm : 16,5/20
Estimation : entre 1974 (puisque revendiqué en Coteaux champenois) et 1979 (puisque pas produit au-delà). Acide (11,5° d’alcool), sensible oxydation (sotolon ?) … pour penser à un chardonnay du Jura. Une piste aligoté sera aussi proposée.

Rioja Lopez de Heredia Tondonia Reserva 1982 : 16,5/20
Belle évolution lactée, viandée, pour ce vin fin et frais qui évoque un pinot noir. Gelée de fruits, clafoutis, champignons. Du coup, Lopez de Heredia, avec un certain âge, semble probable.

Margaux Bel Air Marquis d’Aligre 1979 : 17/20
Evolution de classe pour cet excellent vin serein et persistant, joliment évolué, poivronné et légèrement fumé, de puissance moyenne mais d’une grande cohérence, que j’ai pris pour un Poyeux de Rougeard.

Gutierrez de la Vega Moscatel dulce Cosecha Real 2002 (17 ans d’élevage) : 17/20
Friande expression muscatée, parfaitement équilibrée, tout en finesse et longueur. Abricot et lavande, avec une pointe de noix de coco. Je penserai à Klein Constantia.

Richaud Vin de France (Rasteau) Vin d’où 1977 : 17/20
Véritable curiosité que ce VDN de grenache noir longuement vieilli (en mode oxydatif), qui a subi un ouillage au muscat en 2008. Acidulé avec des évocations de guignolet, de brandy. J’ai pensé à un Banyuls tuilé (par exemple du domaine Vial-Magnières). Mis en bouteille en 2016.

Sardaigne Meloni Vini Moscato di Cagliari Donna Jolanda 2008 : 17/20
Ici encore on pourra se croire confronté à Klein Constantia. L’expression est généreusement gourmande, fruitée, équilibrée.
