Last bottle of a beautiful Champagne--1996 Jean Laurent BdN disgorged Sept 2004

This wine was a tip from our Champagne guru Brad Baker a few years back, but he told me that the Sept 04 was especially delish.

So I go searching for this wine and finally find it. Asked what the disgorgement date was and it was the 9/04. They said they had 3 available and ordered them. Couple days later they call me back letting me know the wine is on its way, and they also have 4 more available, so I said, sure.

So I got 2 packages of 7 bottles total a few days apart.

First bottle I opened–superb. Then quite a few cooked wines. Another great one, followed by some more furniture polish wines.

I am enjoying today the last one of the great ones. Perfect balance of acidity, fruit/dough combination, nice long finish.

Just some ramblings.

Otto,

Shame on the cooked wines. That really sucks. I last had this last year and the consensus was that it topped the following 96s served alongside it: Krug, Salon and the April 06 disgorgement of CdG.
