Las Vegas Restaurants

Ferraro’s is terrific. In Summerlin, there’s Al Solito Posto or La Strega (though it might be a little too similar to the Esther’s vibe). I’ve also heard good things about Locale, just haven’t made it out there myself. And, if you really want classic, old-school Vegas Italian, there’s always Piero’s.

We frequented La Strega quite a bit-love that place. In addition to a pretty good daily menu, the specials are usually very good also. I read recently Gina is opening a steak type restaurant also in the Summerlin area? We moved away a few months back and haven’t kept track, but we do miss La Strega.

Yes, she’s opening a steakhouse in Downtown Summerlin called Harlo. Serving Flannery beef. It looks like they did a soft open for industry people and is supposed to be opening to the public sometime in the next week or two.

Thanks for the tips. Here is what went down.

First night large group dinner at Lamaii. Food was extremely good and the wings were particularly outstanding! Bank rushed over from his other place to welcome us and poured us a comped bottle of Egon Müller Kabinett, wonderful overall hospitality. We were also joined by Curtis McCormick, of The Ledgends (made famous as the sample for Deeper by Freddie Gibbs and Madlib) and his lovely wife. They both regaled us with many stories including how they were introduced by Curtis Mayfield, dated for awhile, went their separate ways and after both became widows were reunited almost 40 years later.

Hit Vesta for coffee, excellent and I really dug the everything bagel inspired croissant.

We hit Lotus of Siam for lunch. Kudos to sommelier Aaron the restaurant was slammed and I am sure he did not need a table of 8 with several bottles that needed chilling and opening plus we kept ordering bottles that I am sure were not the norm. He was super gracious and enthusiastic and even gave me his wine key to take to the festival. What a professional! They don’t make them like that anymore. Food was good but I have to give the edge to Lamaii. They do get extra credit for letting us take over the sound system! Love LOS and plan to come back.

After the show we headed over to Ping Pang Pong as it is open until 3:00 a.m. $5 corkage! The food was just ok but honestly we were all pretty spent after drinking all day and a stressful festival. Side note: Kendrick Lamar is a fucking genius and he blew my mind!

Onto the next day were going to hit Nakamura-Ya a Japanese Italian spot recommended by Board Memberr Ross Massey for lunch, however our meeting with Buffalo musical legend, Billy Nunn, co-writer of Mary Jane and original Stone City Band member went for hours so we missed lunched. However it looked so good we went over to try a few things before dinner. Luckily they were open at 4:30. Excellent all around. It is in a food strip mall with a number of other promising spots. Can’t wait to go back and try some of them. This area and type of restaurant is what excited me about Vegas.

On to the official dinner at Majordomo. We have been going to the Momofuku restaurants since the very, very beginning. They never cease to amaze me how they deliver. We had a great meal that included the excellent Whole Fried Snapper, Crispy Cauliflower Shawarma and the GM comped us the Cacio e Pepe Macaroni with some white truffles. We also drank well.

All in all a fun 48 hours of food, music and wine. And Vegas is really growing on me.

Hope this is helpful to others. And thanks to Ross for the great recommendation.

Robert - looks like you hit up some really nice spots while you were in town. Las Vegas is a great food/culture town - just have to know where to look (or, you have to know Ross Massey!)! Cheers

Re: Harlo. I ran into the sous chef at LaStrega and she filled me in. They are in the old Andiron (Honey Salt folks ran this one) in Downtown Summerlin right across from Crate/Barrel. Sounds like they have ambitious plans. They are now fully open.

Thanks Jim-we went to the brunch at Andiron before the pandemic-it was good. I don’t think they ever reopened after the shutdown. I’m rooting for Gina-La Strega was always a great meal. if she is only using Flannery beef I’m out-I might be the only person on the planet who dislikes it. I’ve talked to Katie and tried multiple times but it’s just a no go for me. Something strange about me I suppose..

Dan: Went to Andiron for brunch and one of their “Farm to Table” events. Both were good. They supposedly “closed for remodeling.” That’s code for “we are done.” I visit Downtown Summerlin fairly often and there was no activity at the building. So it didn’t surprise me when they did not reopen. Glad someone good is taking over the location.

I’m not a huge beef fan, but one of my wine friends here is. He literally has gone to ever steak house in Vegas and can give you a review of each one. His fave was Carne Vino in the Venetian which closed when they ran Batali out of town. I will try Harlo but would like to see a few reviews after they are up and running.

In one of the articles I read about Harlo, it said they’re only using Flannery beef for their dry-aged program. The rest of their steaks are coming from somewhere else.

Wife and I are going to check it out soon! Very excited.

Bump. Wife and I are going to be there in a couple of weeks. So far only reservations are LOS and Brezza. I’ve got Lamaii on the radar now - thanks! Any other new spots and/or favorites?

I think Lamaii > LOS right now. LOS is still great, but I think Lamaii is the best Thai in town right now. Bank just opened his second restaurant in Henderson, too. If you’re looking for sushi, go to Kame. Had dinner at Brezza when it opened last Fall and thought it was pretty good but overpriced - have to imagine prices are even steeper now. I’d just prepare for that.

If you’re inclined to do any casino dining, we had an excellent meal at Momofuku in the Cosmopolitan – the whole duck was really good.

In my opinion, Bank Atcharawan‘s cooking surpassed his auntie’s at the Chada restaurants and now Lamaii. Ate another wonderful meal at Lamaii Spring Mountain yesterday, washed down with Agrapart Avizoise. I was by myself, so only managed Loui Suan, my beloved Mun Pu (crab fat) Fried Rice, and a small portion of mango/w sticky rice.

Don’t sleep on Bank’s Patio Wine Garden either. It’s a lot of fun.

Thanks for all the recommendations & also the input on Brezza. After looking a little more we ended up changing our reservation that night to Momofuku. Lamaii is going to happen at some point while we’re there. The other meals are still up in the air.

Smart decision. In addition to the food being better at Momofuku, The Cosmopolitan is just more fun than Resorts World, imho.

Totally agree-there is just something about the Cosmo. Many really good restaurants there. I’ve had some really good meals at Momofuku.

We did enjoy the Asian-focused food court at Resorts World when we swung by there at lunchtime one day. Certainly worth a pit stop (and a clean sparkling airy new casino is refreshing now and again).
