LA MACDONALD Dinner 12/15/22 - 10 VINTAGES (The most complete vertical tasting yet)

Yes, still in as well.

I am still in. Thanks.

Looking forward to it, Todd!

Sucks that I’m out of town for this event. Maybe I’ll bring a ‘10 or ‘12 to have on the day. The ‘14 two of us had this Monday at the Watergrill dtla was in top form.

Still in!

How about @Glen_Gold @Kevin_Lloyd @T_Turney @Jboonsook @Steve_Anderson @Bhershman @jordan_jacobs @Scott_Wanamaker ?

Yup, got the deposits, just making sure everyone is in for final headcount and such, setting menu, etc

Yep, I’m in. Going to my offsite tomorrow to confirm I can pull whatever I’m assigned.

For those attending, what are your thoughts on serving the wines blind, to remove any preconceived notions on vintages? I love blind tasting, as it clearly illuminates how little I know, but it also really makes you think, get the most out of the tasting.

If so, I might want Alex or Graeme to volunteer to bag them, or someone else, as if I see what the bottles are, I can’t participate in the guessing, lol

  • Should we do the tasting blind?
  • Yes
  • No
  • I don’t care

Yes, still in.

Love the idea of a blind tasting.

I’m the freeloader here, so I’m a little hesitant to weigh in, but…

I voted no, but I want to be a little more nuanced than that. It could be interesting to taste blind initially, but I’d really like to spend a good amount of time with the wines non-blind. I’m really interested in comparing the vintages and seeing the evolution of the wines (both bottle age and perhaps winemaking) over the years.

So perhaps my vote is really a “yes, but” vote.

Scott, with 20 people and 2 bottles of each (other than '10, '11, '12) we will have time for both, for sure - blind round, then reveal and go back for more and spend time with them, knowing both what you thought when blind and figuring out new things once revealed

Makes sense to me - and sounds good.

I think blind by selected flights could be interesting. I don’t think much would be gained by randomly assigning the '11 and '19 to the same flight. However, a blind flight of '16 and '17 could be very educational.

If we do it, I’ll let Alex/Graeme determine the order/combos
