LA eats and Tavern

Tavern is her new spot, A.O.C. also has some pretty rave reviews. The Bazaar is supposed to be the new IT spot but I’ve yet to go!

When I was out there in July I got taken out to Palate Food and Wine which I thought was terrific. Not right in LA, but in Glendale. Worth the trip, imo. Here’s a link to their website: http://www.palatefoodwine.com/

Also went to Lou. Actually, right after dinner at Palate Food and Wine, so all I had was a cheese plate, but I believe it’s kind of got a reputation out there as Ten Bells has here. Cool wine list.

Friends rave about dinner at Tavern, but I haven’t been yet. However I did go for Sunday brunch and it was fantastic. Beautiful space, great cocktails and incredible food; don’t miss the ricotta pancakes and the brisket hash.

Yaacov,
I live in the neighborhood and eat at Tavern often. The name is no accident. The food is much more simple (my favorite menu items are the burgers, but because they backed up the kitchen, they are only served before 7 or after 10. Unless you sit at the bar. Not in the bar, at the bar. Not a hot/busy bar in the NYC sense, but busy for Brentwood. So, it is even often a pain to get a seat at the bar before/at dinner time. The dining room is a very nice space. The menu is still pretty small as they are still dialing-in the kitchen. Suzanne and Caroline are usually both there, or were as recently as a month ago (I just got back from a month-long trip and haven’t been since returning), and don’t seem ready to leave it to the staff to run (not a bad thing). If you want a burger (beef, turkey, or pork), go for lunch or at 6:30 and tell them to fire it at 6:59… So, as someone who loves the place, if you are in or near Brentwood and want a casual bite and a decent cocktail, certainly it is the best place around. Not sure I’d travel to eat there. I do travel to AOC and Lucques.

Lou’s place is fantastic. My friend DJ is the chef and brings high flavor / authenticity to very well priced food. Great wine selection too…

What area are you looking to eat? The Baazar is awesome, but if you go I’d recommend not to eat on a Fri-Sat night unless you enjoy people watching and don’t mind long waits, even with a rezzo. I’d also suggest making a reservation for Saam, the “secret” room of the Baazar. You’ll have to order the $120 tasting menu but it’s worth it, and the room is much more focused on actual dining than the other two.

what about Keller’s Bouchon which opened in BH this month.

Providence, Sona or Melisse are top notch for food and Burgundy [cheers.gif]
