Kosher for Passover

It is getting to be close to that time of year again, and I had the need to open a kosher bottle for some family this week.

2007 Domaine du Castel Petit Castel… incredible nose of dark blue, black fruit with loads of dark chocolate and some wood spice. The blue/black fruit comes through immediately on the palate joined with ripe, sweet tannins and leading to a long finish. I am sure that this would get better with age. The best kosher wine I have ever had.

The Domaine du Castel Grand Vin is also excellent, but also more expensive, but I have only tried the '05.

Definitely worth seeking some out if you are going to need a kosher option for the holiday, and want to “enjoy” the wine, without those cooked/stewed flavors that we most often encounter.

Petit Castel is always nice stuff but I’ve never found the price a big enough discount from the grand vin to justify buying it. We’ll be doing 2004 Castel at Passover this year, curious to see how it’s doing.
