2022 was a mild growing season, the second of three, and we captured a coiled just-ripe tension in the wines, with remarkable structure – fully reflective of the picture perfect temperate nature of the year. The wines are quite unique in that they are surely due to please early, with a staying power to age well for the patient.
2022 Vintage: 2022 was a year of early budbreak, a mild growing season and an early harvest which saw us finishing the picking of our fruit as the Labor Day heatwave set in. The conditions in 2022 were similar to 2018 in their overall clement nature, albeit a touch cooler, and with naturally low crops offering an innate sense of concentration and focus to the finished wines. The finished wines carry some of the best markers from 2011 and 2016, fresher vintages both. We successfully captured the more restrained, subtle and nuanced characters in the fruit that were a result of summer months which were on the cooler side of things. The resultant wines carry all of those notes forward with an underlying sense of poise, purity, freshness and good, strong natural acidities. They lead with an intriguing just-ripe nature, and possess a deep added layer of depth and complexity underneath. The interplay between their graceful stature and the more savory earthen tones as a byproduct of vigorous and succinct natural fermentations are compelling.
