Killer Loire/Chinon (1977-2010) Night w/Tooch, Corey N., and Marc F. [and a '65 Mouton for kicks]

Very odd comment from Suzanne, Corey, as she’s certainly brought plenty of Vouvray to dinners. As you say, the wine is terrific. Not super sweet, especially for his Reserve bottling, but it has great intensity and riveting acidity.

Apparently she only drinks Vouvray to humor you, Brad.

Just to be 100% clear, I love Suzanne to bits (great palate and cool as all get out – WAY cooler than Robert – what’s not to like?) I felt awful because the other wine that I brought that night was an ex-cellar Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggio that ended up being DOA.

The scoundrel that evening was Georgie, who offered nary a peep in my defense, as I sat there alone, cold, and thoroughly humiliated. Mind you, I like being thoroughly humiliated and I’m willing to pay for the experience, but dammit, I want to do it on my terms.

Is there going to be a Berserker Day discount on the sex tape?

I blame this on Alfert’s decision to spend his 50th birthday in the mountains. The wilderness got to him. He came back with a perverted concept of what a normal male mid-life crisis is supposed to be.

I may even go buy a Corvette and work on my Cubanaso.

Funny, he did mention to me about the next themed dinner centered around a Pig Roast, must be derived from all that post traumatic Ned Beatty squealing emerging from his subconscious.

Did somebody say pig roast? You’re practically begging me to return.

Hilarious story – nice! Suzanne’s got a spot-on palate and one well tolerant of stern acidity. Unlike you, Brad… [snort.gif]

Sounds like a great night, look forward to meeting you one day, Corey, and can I just say: this is the best thread I’ve read in a long time (been buried in the PC post-holocaust…).

Cheers!

I could sense from previous posts from the participants in this romantic tale that this thread was good. But this is Nobel quality!
As a fellow maschocist who enjoys Chinon and other Loire reds (insipid, herbaceous, green, unripe), I thank Thee for the interesting notes. Especially on the mature
CHINON. I am envious

Huh? [scratch.gif] I love acidity in whites. It’s oak I can’t stand.

Clearing out some iPhone pics and saw this, for the fans of Thunder Mountain!

Classicly cheesy label!

The thing behind the label was, Milan saw it as his alter ego.

The label looks like one of those romance novels at the grocery store, that might be what got Corey so hot and bothered.

Do tell Brad, share the back-story!

What other wines did he make?

Totally kidding. You and I both love high acidity in whites (and me in reds, mostly, too). Hence the [snort.gif]

I don’t recall any other story other than he just used to say it was his alter ego.

I found an old site that lists a bunch of the wines he made here: Thunder Mountain Winery Details

Also, a nice write up back in the day of his passing on the Gang of Pour’s website: Milan in Santa Cruz - A Remembrance

I am afraid to ask what Corey’s alter ego would look like

That was a sincere heartfelt homage on Milan. Wish I could of met this man.
His '97 TM cab franc is quite brilliant. This bottle woke me up to remind me what Cali can do with wine. I have parted ways with California sometime ago. I would have never left if wines like these were still being made or Havens.(the real Havens)…which I think is back now as Cave Dog.

The only question is whether to emphasize the assless chaps or the codpiece.

Matt – if you genuinely want to meet up, it’s probably best not to ask Suzanne about me or she’ll advise you to snub me like a bottle of 1995 Foreau Domaine du Clos Naudin Vouvray Moelleux Réserve.

Dude, bring that Foreau again and we’ll do our own jeeb. [cheers.gif]
