just popped a 92 monte bello

doing a sediment decant. also lost about 20% of the bottom of the cork into the wine.

a bit funky and hot right off the bat. dinner in about an hour so we shall see how it develops/

I opened one the other day but it was heat damaged . . .

Always liked this wine.

i think the fruit fly that just committed suicide in the decanter may detract from the wine a bit

From a 750ml? I have a couple half bottles of this that I may pop soon.

of course YBMV but this one is about a year or 2 past peak. I can’t tell exactly what was recently there but just insist quite anymore. 91 pts now. 95 a year or 2 ago.

Quick, delete the score before it’s flippability is ruined [snort.gif] .

Be thankful, I actually slurped a fly last weekend - must have been sitting on the surface of the wine or on the rim, good thing I didn’t try and aerate the wine in my mouth.

gained a bit more complexity as we made our way through the bottle. would bump it a point or so.

Jordon, was this bottle POR or in the secondary?

secondary.

many may have rated this higher than i did. Just would have liked a hair more fruit. reminded me of a very good pauillac

Im a huuuge fan of the '91, '92, and '93 trio. (Also the '90 somewhat, which I had a half of last night) I think for longevity, the '93 might have the tannins to go the longest. The purity of the fruit of the '91, though, for immediate consumption gets my vote. I haven’t had a '92 in some months, so will try one tonight. Jordan- any chance you’re attending the acker sale on Fri? Will have a mag each of the '85 and '91.

J

i will be attending it online at home. Unfortunately it’s the best i can do living 6 hours from NYC.
