Loved the article, didn’t even notice the byline. I was in Campania last year, the wines were excellent. I highly recommend a trip down to the Cilento area to visit San Salvatore. It’s beautiful there.
I see he also mentions Oliver’s Taranga. This is an Aussie white worth seeking out.
There were a few Campanian whites worth seeking out in our market a few years ago. Like Mastroberadino Greco Nova Serra of numerous Falanginas and Fianos. I was told these wines are pretty tough to sell. Too bad. I think this attitude is why Italian whites have never gotten the love they deserve.
They are definitely a tough sell. However Campania is investing in promotion to promote more tourism, especially from the US. Aglianico is starting to emerge in some circles as the next noble variety of Italy which deserves greater recognition. We will see how it goes. In the meantime more good stuff for those in the know!
Hi Brent
Did you drive down there, or take the train down and hire locally? We often considered going when we were planning trips to Amalfi coast, but we either changed bases along the coast, or on one occasion ended up flying to Catania to visit the Aeolian islands. The Cilento National park certainly sounded interesting.

Ian
Not a tough sell in California, Brent, perhaps because Shelley Lindgren has been promoting Campania wine and food for more than ten years here at A16. We have examples of Fiano, Greco, Falanghina (both kinds), Biancolella, Coda di Volpe, and blends from the Amalfi coast and Ischia. Campania is my favorite Italian white wine region now.
I was actually on a tour. The tour company is run by a couple of friends here in NY. I can send you some suggestions. My friends have a cousin who runs a Borgo in the hills of Capaccio, and I have a taxi guy if you need a guide. Daytime driving is nice, but there are definitely some places I’d rather not be driving to/from after some wine at night.
