Joh Jos Prum 2019

Any insights on the 2019 from JJ Prum?

Mosel fine wines might have some info but I haven’t read their recent stuff yet. Also, I’m not sure if Miran has visited Joh Jos prum on his adventures yet for the Riesling Report.

I would love to hear more specifics. I know that early indications from a few places have said it will be another good vintage in Mosel generally. However, vintages are often the vintage of the century during pre-orders :grinning:.

Prüm is one of the rare producers that needs no insights. Just buy!

Very good point David. [cheers.gif]

Haven’t seen any notes from anyone yet. In general it seems like an auslese year so mostly bought WS auslese and GKA.

Haven’t seen any offers in Europe yet.

Panzer had an offer out a couple of weeks back, pretty comprehensive across the range.

I was in Hi Time the other day, and the 2018 (not 2019) Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett Riesling was $39. Are Prum prices on the upward march these days?

That’s notably high.

Got my offer from Panzer. Prices aren’t that bad, even with tariffs.

Did not order WS auslese this time. GH auslese was nearly 30% cheaper and Himmelreich is not inferior.

Although, I’ll probably end up picking up a bottle or two in the future

Not necessarily inferior, but very different. I don’t really think you can compare the two in terms of value. They’re just so different. Personally, I would pay the 30% premium for the WS. But that’s just my preference for the elegance that is WS. GH is situated behind the town of Graach whereas WS is right on the river. When I taste the GH I can really taste the sights and smells of the town itself. With WS the fruit is much more pure and elegant.

You can taste the sights?

I don’t think I know what that even means.

In any case, I find both GH and WS to be exceedingly capable of beautiful fruit and elegance. Perhaps GH is more open with WS being more slate driven, but to be honest it just depends on the vintage, pradikat level, and pure randomness

That’s a good point. I didn’t even think of the tariffs when I paid. I mailed my check today. I am looking forward to my first pre-order. I still need to pick up 2018’s .

Synesthesia!

Didn’t buy auslese, just kabinett and spätlese. I have tons of auslese, but I drink more kabinett and spätlese.

And let’s face it, today’s spätlese is yesterdays auslese.

Same. Finding not enough occasions to drink auslese. Always in the mood for kabinett.

Absolutely. What sights from your time in Graach most resonate with the wine?

Graach has its own flavor like any other town that is imparted on the wine especially because of where it sits in relation to the vineyards.
