Not sure where to start really. Terrific dinner for winestore staff at a top Portuguese restaurant here in Edmonton. I was invited as I try to help with tastings from time to time!
I cannot list all the wines tasted but three lovely whites stood out.
2012 Bassermann-Jordan Jesuitengarten GG. Went very well with Bacalhau Loin served on Tomato and Rapini Risotto. Cod was salty as to be expected but good match. Nose had lime, peach, tropical notes. Very good acidity, lengthy, elegant and complex. Quite an experience.
2015 JJ Prum Graacher Himmelreich Auslese. Joy in a bottle, wonderful with Piri Piri Shrimp. Great acidity, delicate, lots of body and fruit, peach, nectarine. Very primary, 10 years ahead at least.
2001 Weinbach Gewurztraminer Mambourg VT. Think I will never drink anything like this again. Classic nose. On the palate butterscotch, beautiful ripe fruit, no bitter edge at all. Very long finish, delicious with various desserts.
Other wines include 2013 Closel Savenniere Les Caillardieres, 2013 Z H Pinot Gris Heimbourg, 2005 Mandois Brut, 2006 Sassicaia, 2000 Gruaud Larose, 2005 Graillot Crozes-Hermitage.
