Jerome Galeyrand: A tiny Rising Star in Burgundy

It is with great excitement that we present the highly anticipated 2022 vintage from Jérôme Galeyrand, one of Burgundy’s rising stars and a true artisan of terroir. Based in the Côte de Nuits, Galeyrand has steadily built a reputation for crafting soulful, expressive wines that marry elegance with authenticity. His meticulous, organic farming and low-intervention cellar work allow each parcel to speak with clarity—an ethos deeply evident in the radiant and refined 2022s.

The vintage itself offered near-ideal growing conditions: warm but balanced, with enough freshness to preserve finesse. The resulting wines are remarkably pure, vibrant, and terroir-driven—capturing the nuanced character of each site from Marsannay to Gevrey-Chambertin.

Whether you’re a longtime admirer or discovering Galeyrand’s wines for the first time, the 2022s are a thrilling testament to his vision and skill. This is a domaine on the ascent, and this vintage is not to be missed.

Summary of the 2022s by Vinous’ Neal Martin, November 2023:

My tasting with Jérôme Galeyrand was one of the highlights of my most recent trip to Burgundy. I have long admired these wines for their nuance and transparency. I tasted all the 2022s from tank just prior to bottling. Harvest started on September 5 and lasted ten days. The 2022s were vinified without sulfur using ambient yeasts. Élevage took place with no racking until the wines were moved into tank and sulfured in preparation for bottling. As always, the reds see some stem inclusion.

Summary of the 2022s by Wine Advocate’s William Kelley, January 2024:

Jérôme Galeyrand is an exciting producer whose emphasis is on interesting old massal selections of Pinot Noir. As I’ve written before, there are no grands or premiers crus at this address; but there are plenty of ancient vines in nicely situated communal lieux-dits in the Côte de Nuits. That’s exemplified by the fact that the domaine’s finest and indeed emblematic wine is not from Gevrey-Chambertin or even Fixin, but rather his Côte de Nuits-Villages Les Rétraits. Farming is organic, with cultivated soils and canopies hedged high, at 1.60 meters. Galeyrand uses appreciable percentages of whole clusters, pressing with a manual basket press (“cheaper and better” than the alternatives, he contends—and I concur), and his touch with new oak is decidedly light. The result is beautifully perfumed, sensual wines that offer broad and immensely pleasurable drinking windows, frequently punching well above their weight in the appellation hierarchy.

From the Importer, Becky Wasserman

Originally from the Loire, Jérôme does not come from a winemaking family. He worked for eight years in the food industry. Then, after harvesting for a couple of years at Domaine Alain Burguet in Gevrey-Chambertin as of 1996, became inspired and motivated to embark on his own estate project, and so enrolled at the wine institute in Beaune. In 2002, he bought his first vineyard plot (a miniscule 0.05 hectares!) and carried out his own vinification that September. Since then, Jérôme expanded the holdings to five hectares of vines and harvests every year with a group of well-trained friends. Vinification takes place in a small winery at his home. His goal is terroir transparency. Jérôme’s wines are precise, refined and elegant, beautifully perfumed, positively delicious. He produces roughly 2,000 cases a year, based on vintage conditions, of course.
