Went out in Portland since my sister’s mother-in-law was celebrating her 100th birthday! It was a real treasure to be part of this and since we were going to a local place called the Ringside Fishhouse I thought a couple of Meursaults would be in order. It was nice to try two from the same vineyard, albeit different vintages and styles. There were similarities but the Jobard was clearly superior.

2002 Hospices de Beaune Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières Cuvée Baudot Michel Colin-Deléger et Fils - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru (12/1/2013)
Lighting was dim so could not evaluate color well, but it appeared to be light golden. Vanilla, citrus and stone on the nose. Very nice on the palate with creamy citrus, vanilla and mineral but in addition to vanilla some oak notes. The style paired really well with a lobster soup. Wine was Excellent but could have been Outstanding with more deft oak. -
2001 Domaine Francois et Antoine Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru (12/1/2013)
Room was dark but wine appeared straw-colored. Lovely citrus and mineral on the nose. Intense mineral and citrus with some smoke - this is really hitting on all cylinders! Wine was opened at the beginning of dinner and served alongside an '02 Colin-Deleger Hospice du Beaune Genevrieres. The Jobard was clearly the finer wine this night. Finish stays a long time and was just perfect with oysters and sole meuniere. Outstanding.
