Jackson Hole

Need some current recommendations for restaurants. Jackson Hole, Big Sky, Bozeman. Thanks.

JH: Snake River Grill is kind of the go-to “high-end”. Kitchen is decent. Local I like for post-ski sit at the bar drink (OK wine list) eats (never sat for full meal at tables). King Sushi is a tiny joint on side street, but I have had good time with good sushi sitting at sushi bar.

There is BIn22 with is “wine bar” with retail store attached and communal tables and lots of snackish plates. Wine is what it is.

Oh, I don’t know if it is open during non-ski season, but Everett’s on Big Sky’s hill sucks. Really sucks.

Hi @Leonard_Taylor,

I’m a longtime Bozeman resident and have spent a lot of time in Jackson.

For Jackson, I would add Trio to your “fine dining” considerations. Snake River Grill, as Paul noted, is the go-to high end option and fits that bill well. For fantastic Thai, Teton Thai out at the Jackson Hole ski area village is very well worth the trip and possible wait. Super casual Mexican in town, but tasty, Pica’s is a good choice. If you’re out at Teton Park, a cold beer on the roof of Dornan’s is a must, especially late afternoon after a great hike. The wine shop there is worth checking out, too. Not what it used to be, but still surprising to find there in Moose, WY.

In Bozeman, my top choice is Blackbird. The wine list is mediocre at very best, but the food is consistently very good, good vibe, and always a nice experience. Little Star Diner is also good, but again, nothing to see there as far as wine list. If the wine list is an important factor for you, the only real option is Heist steakhouse. Pricey, but good list, and a really nice atmosphere.

Enjoy your visit!

Cheers,
Jon

Jon, a decade or so we ate at an Italian restaurant (not Blackbird) that was over near the University. Don’t remember the name and tried searching for it, without success. Recall the food was very good (we even enjoyed some roasted bone marrow) but don’t recall any thing about the wine. I’ve got some close friends coming through town (Cheyenne) this week, on their way to Bozeman, and was going to recommend it to them. Any idea what Italian restaurant I am talking about? If so, is it still open? Either way, I’ll pass on your recommendations to them - thank you!

Terry

Edit to add that we also ate at Blackbird and really liked it. :wine_glass:

Hi Terry,

I believe that would have been Blacksmith Italian. On Kagy Ave. near MSU. It was a good restaurant, but they closed last fall, unfortunately. Another place to consider in Bozeman is a restaurant called Shan. It’s an Asian fusion-Chinese sort of place on the north side of town. The food has been a little hit or miss lately, but when it’s on, it’s quite good. The wine list – as pretty much all wine lists here in Bozeman – is nothing to write home about, but you can certainly find something to keep you hydrated during your meal.

I’m happy to hear that you all enjoyed Blackbird and hope that your friends have a nice visit!

Cheers,
Jon
