Jack Winery Tasting

Jack Winery was created by Chris Iannetta, (Seattle Mariners) and former major leaguer, Vernon Wells. Winemaker Grant Long Jr. brought the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon for us to try. The grapes come from both Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain and the wine showed all the depth that the mountain fruit is known for. Approachable and showy after 45 minutes with spicy black fruit and coffee notes on the long finish. Tannins up front when first opened, that resolve slowly through the first hour, reducing the spice notes some and extending the black fruits on the finish. $100 a bottle.

We ordered two cases and when they arrived, there was an extra box containing a couple bottles of their 2013 Napa Valley Sauvingon Blanc. (The 14 is already released too.) Chilled for 3 hours, then opened. This one is my style. Plenty of acidity, citrus driven with white peach and some pear notes. (They list pineapple notes on the website, but I didn’t notice it.) After we finished half the bottle, I was hungry. If there is a down side to this SB, it is the price, $50.00.
