Its not you....It's me

I think I have finally decided to drop off the Williams Selyem list. I feel like I am breaking up with an old girlfriend. My tastes have shifted more toward European wines and with a bottles costing $60 plus now I can find many wines that better fit my palate for much less in Piedmont, Rhone, Tuscany and even Burgundy. Good by my old friend.

You’ve been with other women, jeff?
Shame on you…

“You’re God damn right it’s me”…George Costanza

Rob, you are partially to blame. You are a bad influence. [cheers.gif]

Turns out it’s an easy extended trial separation. I haven’t bought since the 2007 vintage and still get very healthy allocations, most recently the 2011s a couple days ago. So I wouldn’t be concerned, seems she’ll always take you back if you miss her.

SO true…I have told wineries to take me off the mailing list and yet, year after year, the offers keep showing up. It’s almost like having a stalker.

I haven’t purchased since '07 and just got an offer. 21 wines. Waaaaaaay too many.

I admire WS, and I’m usually happy with the bottles I open from time to time that I acquired during my few years on the list (vintages 04-07).

I mostly just didn’t like the list experience – too many wines, allocated too little of each one, prices too high (and much higher than you could find at auction). Sure, if you’re a high roller who is buying cases each time and eventually gets allocated plenty of the ones you want, then that’s one thing, but their list doesn’t really work for someone like me who wants to spread his buying around and maybe to get a case or less of WS per year through them.

No hard feelings, it just didn’t work out for me, and I’m finding plenty of subsitutes.

I like WS, mainly for their old vine Zins and their appellation Pinots. I get allocated to few of the Zins.

I still remember our first date. It turns out it was a threesome. My then girlfriend - now wife were on our back porch. A friend had brought over a bottle of WS. I don’t remember which vineyard or year, but I do remember the “holy shit this is good” moment. I think that bottle turned me on to Pinot in general. We still enjoy them, but I just don’t find myself reaching for one as often. We have grown apart.

:astonished:

We got the full tour there in 1994 on a college sanctioned field trip over spring break. That was my wine come to jeezus moment. Also toured Rochioli, Rafanelli, Preston, etc. Cant remember them all
