IT’S ALIVE!!! (Krug 2004 has finally awakened!)

I hadn’t touched one of these since my last bottle two and a half years ago was tight and acidic. I atypically showed some patience and impulse control and waited until now to give it another try.

This has metamorphosed into a gem! It has all of the Krug magic I find in their best bottles. Depth, class, density, elegance. We opened several tête de cuvées this holiday weekend, and the Krug outshined them all. It will make me reconsider my decision to only buy the GC and forego the Vintage Brut.

Cheers

Bravo Warren. I love the 2004 Krug and, like you, found it to be tightly coiled for a long while, but it will also continue to spread its wings, grow, and drink wonderfully for many, many years. A really superb release by Krug that captures the year perfectly.

I posted a similar note a couple of weeks ago. Great wine.

How timely, opened this last night and had a similar experience:

  • 2004 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut - France, Champagne (9/5/2021)
slightly golden, loads of apple and a little bit of brioche on the nose. Starts off with candied lemon strong up front, overlaying the orchard fruit and the little nuttiness in the finish. After 30 minutes or so the lemon melds into the fruit finding balance. Phenomenal champagne.

Yup! I’ve had a few over the last couple of months and it’s really beginning to open up with a long life ahead.

Reviving this old thread.

Was reading a recent note by AG and he mentioned 2018 disgorgement date for 2004 Krug. I am trying to locate a late release for 2004 Krug. I was wondering if anyone here had more info.

Enjoyed the stylish photo! Could be a professional ad!
