Ok, its not my choice to come to CA and be in Nipomo, but its for work. I probably won’t have the opportunity to stray too far either…and thus the question…although if I’m able to arrange trip toward Santa Barbara…what would anyone’s recommendations be? I love Pinot, but normally steer towards Oregon and Sonoma.
I guess I should hope for a need to be there on a Monday then…don’t know the schedule yet, so I could use the weekend before to hit Paso and/or Santa Barbara.
Wouldn’t call it a client of mine…its just one of our company locations…although we are based in Florida. We have all the uninteresting areas of CA covered - Nipomo, Coalinga, Salinas, Wastonsville and San Juan Batista. [suicide.gif]
Wow. Your company is really sticking it’s people in some holes to work out of. At least Nipomo is a just a hop, skip and jump to some quality wine. Coalinga, on the otherhand…bring a gas mask to avoid methane poisoning from all the cows.
No shit. Just looking at flight options are mind boggling. I’m actually flying in from Chicago since I’ll be there the weekend before and wow…I’m thinking of almost just saying…“you can’t get there from here”. Chicago to Las Vegas, Las Vegas to L.A., L.A. to San Luis Obispo…getting back to Tampa is even worse
Thanks for the offer. As we get closer…it will be end of Aug/beg of Sept, I’ll let you know. I might end up working the entire time out there with no free time, but if by chance our schedules can mesh, then I’d love to meet you.
This is where I joined friends last December after a ‘rough’ day of tasting with various board members. Nothing fancy to look at, with an open kitchen and long lines to get in. Arrive early.
The steaks are hugh and the steaks are cheap (compared to NYC).
BYO ok (for a fee?). I’m hoping to head back there in December.
Wine Options: you are literally 10 minutes south from Laetitia - great sparkling! There is also an new wine bar in Arroyo Grande: Gathers, just up the road from you.
And 10 minutes north from great wineries in Santa Maria: Kenneth Volk / Foxen / Costa D’Oro.
Definitely eat at Jocko’s. Far Western in Guadalupe is also great and historical.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned the “wine ghetto” in the Lompoc area. About 25-30 miles from Nipomo. A number of producers clustered together, Sea Smoke, Stolpman, Fiddlehead, Palmina, Foley and on…
What sucks…is that it appears I’ll be tied to a desk during my entire trip during the day.
needless to say…if anyone else is close by…maybe we could arrange something. 31st is best…1st might work.
