i know this is up there with ‘who’s buried in grant’s tomb’, but forgive me, i’m a blue label rookie. i ordered and was confirmed for 6 btls 07 blue label in the last go round and the 6 btls of 07 that i just received were…gray, and looked strikingly similar to the ‘regular’ 08 bottling that i also received. emailed maggie and hadn’t got a repsonse yet, so thought i’d check…is the label for lillian blue label blue?
Best I can tell, it’s a lighter shade of grey. Regular label - dark. Blue label - light. Both grey.
ok thanks jim - 2 things threw me off - label wasn’t blue, and the description on the back of the bottle was ‘2007 california syrah’ and the label on the back of the regular bottling said ‘2008 california syrah’.
Craig,
I understand getting thrown off. I’ve opened up a “Blue Label” thinking it was a regular bottling. It would be nice if the distinction between the two bottlings was a bit more distinct.
It took a while before my storage facility could tell them apart – I think they’ve got it figured out now, though for a while it felt like buying a lottery ticket getting any Lillian blue label shipped in or out.
Despite increasing production of the Blue significantly, Maggie has done a great job of keeping the quality at a superb level. I haven’t tried the '04 yet, but I’ve had multiple bottles of the '05 and '06 and just popped an '07 as well.

+1. I got my first blue this year and thought there was a mistake in shipping
I panicked until I turned the bottle around and saw the subtle difference. I need to pay attention when I get to drinking which will probably coincide with a diminished memory. But I am getting new eyes, so maybe there is hope for a new brain in the future. A reorganization of the cellar along drinking dates may be necessary.
