Is a Eurocave worth repairing?

A friend of mine has a 10 year old Eurocave that stopped working. It is about 100 bottles and is the non-fancy put it in the basement version. Neither of us are technicians, so we do not know what is wrong with it, except that the temp is 70 degrees. Does anyone have experience with the cost and success rate of getting these repaired?

Cooling units die. It is their nature. Cost of another 100 bottle one is likely less than an HVAC person’s time and parts.

Agree, if it were a 400+ bottle unit, the cost would be worthwhile.

My Eurocave that I’ve had since 2009, which is also about a 100 bottle unit, just experienced a similar problem where it slowly started struggling to maintain the set temp and wouldn’t get cooler than 70 degrees. I called a repairman, which in and of itself was difficult as not many electronic repair companies even work on wine fridges, and upon inspection they said the control board was shot. The price to replace the control board for my particular unit? A whopping $1,300! [wow.gif] I think I paid just a tad over that for the unit when I first bought it 7 years ago. I was also alerted of a company called Core Centric Solutions that repairs Eurocave control boards for about $300. Of course as my luck would have it they don’t repair the board for my particular unit. As I found out, Eurocave’s are VERY expensive to repair. I will likely be buying a less expensive unit to replace mine rather than shelling out close to $1,500 (with labor costs) to repair it.

Call a fridge repair guy or two. Get an idea. It could be something really simple. The technology isn’t that complicated. For $150 it’s worth it. For a lot more it’s up to you. I have a 250 bottle Vinoteque over 25 yrs old. I need it for wines I keep by the kitchen. Moved many times. Had a problem, called a Polish fridge guy, cost me $45 and working fine the past two years.

Keep an eye on Costco and their mailers. They quite often have wine refrigerators of various sizes and near unbeatable prices. I bought two okay units from Home Depot and a month later Costco had top brand wine refrigerators for the same price.

My 50 bottle unit is doing the same, hovering around 68-69 degrees now. Just unplugged it because it was running non-stop to try and keep cool. Had it for at least 10 years and I think I paid around $300 on sale for it. Guess I got my money’s worth. I won’t replace it as I’ve got a Costco 250-ish bottle unit as well and this smaller one was really just taking up space. Now I just need to drink down those 40+ bottles.
