On the 28-th June we went to the Elegance des Volnay tastings. They set up a number of tents along the road leading up from the highway to Volnay.
Around 5:30 pm an ominous bank of black clouds unleashed their hail. Hailstones the size of cherries and some the size of golf balls rained down. It was quiet frightening. We all huddled under a tent and hung on to the poles to make sure it did not blow away. My daughter and one of our friends were badly bruised by hail to the back of their legs.
I took the video with one hand on the camera and one on the tent pole. I stopped turning towards the hail as I was worried about the camera.
I thought I would post this to share some of the ferocity.
Later that evening we attended the Paulee style dinner for the Elegance des Volnay where Vignerons who had just seen their entire crop decimated gathered to drown there sorrows. Ironically the hail has coincided with this same celebration only two years ago. Again we will be returning our hire car with a severely dinted roof.
