I always try to max my allocation and wait list as many bottles as possible, so I can track their development over time. Although I worry about the effects of transport, I invariably find myself waiting for the FedEx guy at the edge of my driveway, corkscrew in hand.
Some people say that you can have too much of a good thing. That may be true…except when it comes to Charles Shaw.
I am mad because all I got in the offer was their regular $3.99 Cab and they allocated me zero bottles of their $6.99 “Screaming Beagle” single vineyard Cab. Even worse, their single vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot, “Mudwallow,” is only available if I buy six bottles of their $1.99 Trousseau Gris. Screw that.
I’m finished buying these. I mean last time I took by full allocation, but then saw that they were on sale for $1.49 at K&L 6 months later. Unacceptable behavior for an operation that makes premium wines imho.
They refused to comp my group in their tasting room in 2003 so I am boycotting them. They obviously don’t want my business so I’ll take it elsewhere. Little Penguin.
Anyone know anything about their sulfur regime or new oak chip percentage? I’m worried some of their winemaking practices might be too interventionist and obscure the terroir.
They are officially on my boycott list. My last bottle was corked, and when I went to return it, all they offered in exchange was a tin of edamame hummus.
Be careful what your write on this forum, I know CS reads this and they’ll cut your allocation or remove you from the list entirely. It happened to a friend of mine.
Anyone going to the pickup party next month at the winery? Chuck’s wife will be serving her famous microwaved Vienna sausages to pair with the 2012 Shiraz.
