In Search of Mataro

Unfortunately the article stops right when I thought the introduction was ending…In Search of Mataro

Indeed. I hope he only got paid for half an article!

Ha!!! That reads like a rushed college paper where as long as “something” was submitted, you wouldn’t get a failing grade. Deadlines!

In all seriousness, it is verbatim from Comiskey’s book American Rhône.

Unfortunately, the story ends with Mr Edmunds losing access to the Brandlin family’s estate Mataro/Mourvèdre.

Kent Rosenblum tested some “Brandlin” Zinfandel cuttings, along with a few vineyard samples from Contra Costa County.

I know of no other “Brandlin Vineyard” Mourvèdre wines after Edmunds St John’s bottlings apart from two vintages from Peter Franus.

Are there are any other mountain-grown Mourvèdre bottlings in California?

Scaggs Winery’s “Montage” Mount Veeder AVA Mourvèdre/Grenache/Syrah is being discontinued after the 2013 vintage, and that planting is not an old-growth vineyard.
