In years past, I’ve done an anonymous survey to get the sales data for all participants, so that I can add it up and state it in our various threads. That we’ve set a new record each year helps drive MORE people to buy, so it’s in all our best interest to participate, and I am making it mandatory. Last year, only about 75% of you gave me the data, and I need 100%, as I anticipate this will be the largest ever, once again.
With that in mind, I’d like to have a discussion and get suggestions on how you feel you can share the data with me, but also with a way that I can track it to be sure WHO gave it, then chase down whomever did not. Any ideas?
Just ask each participant’s contact to provide the number to you directly in an email. The numbers are what they are - everyone has ok years, better years, and outstanding years (according to their expectations).
Todd, a google form would be more convenience. You can create the form with the fields you want to capture and you’ll get the data structured. We will just need complete and submit the form.
Unfortunately, I don’t think it has anything to do with the form used - it has to do with the fact that some wineries are just considerate of what you are asking of them.
You are now making this mandatory - what I think you need to do is find a way BEFORE a winery is able to post their offer that they agree to give you the info - or perhaps they are not allowed to take part the following year? I know that sounds harsh, but unfortunately, you’ve been ‘nice’ about it the past few years and folks have not responded the way you want to.
Perhaps if wineries realized that this is a ‘privilege’ to take part and not a right they might act differently . . .
Of course, Todd, you’re still relying on the honor system that people tell you the truth. I’ve heard some pretty egregious make-believe in my day from other participants. Nuthin’ you can do about this so shut up Emily.
I think I suggested a questionnaire once to Brig, like right at the finish of BDay, when I was analyzing my own data and offered to build a little database for you guys. I believe the response was “You’re blowing my head up.” Timing has never been my forte…
Here’s what I would want, not just for your advertisers, but for the producers: build a little database that doesn’t just track SALES, but #of offers, %discount, #orders, #views. Something like that. Mandate data sharing, but also promise the consolidated analysis back!? Not so hard - 3 or 4 data bits for 100 offers. If you put together a little study of that data, would be super interesting. At least to me, but I love numbers.
Do more views really mean more sales? What is average order value of the sellers booking at the highest revenue levels?
Or is it all intangible, maybe this is way neurotic…
I like this idea a lot… Could help people create more successful offers in the future. In any case, it would be easy to collect and very interesting to review.
I thought the form at the end of BD last year was good. Sorry to hear you only had a 75% response rate (shocks me!). I don’t think a short form asking for 4 data points would be too much to ask.
I also agree with Nola and Larry, mandatory to share this information if you want to be a part of BD. Would be hard to be mandatory before the day… but easy to say if you don’t get the data back that you are not invited to participate in the following BD.
Here we go again… thanks for all the work Todd and Brig!
Great ideas - but regardless of the process, the reality is that some who take part in BD as participants simply feel that they ‘can’t be bothered’ with providing Todd anonymous info regarding sales. To me, it is simply unacceptable and ludicrous - it’s a ‘small price to pay’ for allowing a winery access to the WB community on this day. Period.
Todd has made it quite easy in the past to provide this info - one single question - and has asked numerous times for the information to no avail for a number of participants. Not acceptable.
And now with a bunch of new folks, how many will realize that they have to do this? I guess we’ll see . . .
If they don’t submit the info then they can’t list in future BD’s. It’s that simple. I don’t get why it’s so difficult to do. Tally it up and send it in. If you sell on Amazon, the sales are built in to the algorithm, here it’s just a simple request.
If you ask me, just ABSURD. Community implies give and take, and I don’t understand why a nonrespondent would even be allowed to participate again. A very easy way to cull the number of offers down to a manageable level for buyers to review.
Producer participants are not being judged for performance, for goodness sake.
Just curious - are the ones that don’t submit the same ones that don’t participate throughout the year and only show up when there is something to sell on BD?
I would say yes to some extent - but of the 108 offers, how many do you expect to see on here throughout the year besides BD or when their products are mentioned in threads? My guess is that less than 25% ‘participate’ - and even that may be too high. Look at the post counts of those doing the offerings . . .
With how many I’ve had to turn down this year, showing up in the last few days wanting to participate, I’ve decided that along with my cap at 100 next year, one of the requirements for any returning participant will be the data/form. If you don’t submit the data, I can’t reserve a spot on next year’s BerserkerDay for you.
My backbone has gotten stronger over the last week or so, with me having to turn so many away, which I’ve never done (other than those whose offer wasn’t any good, so I said it wouldn’t be a good fit, or for something I knew wouldn’t appeal to the Berserkers)
Thanks for the hard work, Todd et all - we TRULY do appreciate it.
Has there been any thought on ‘voluntarily’ collecting data from WB consumers on their purchasing this BD day as well (well all is done, of course)? I would think it’d be interesting to see how many first time consumers there are taking part this year, how many offers took advantage of, how many of those were repeat purchasers, what total $ spent this year vs last, etc. Again, just a thought but it would be interesting all around . . .
