Had dinner with a buddy last night for his BDay and some friends. Food as usual was excellent, wild mushrooms and polenta was great, fresh mista salad, and then off menu Carbonara, best in Seattle IMO.
Mascarello Monprivato 2006
Very light color, great aromatics with rose, leather, tar, cranberries, and a bright palate of red fruits and earth.
Petroio Chianti Classico Riserva 2007
I’ll limit my thoughts as we sell this, and bought off wine list, but rich and deep, full of Sangiovese character, with black and red fruits, great with Carbonara. Great value.
Dal Forno Valpolicella 2006
Great nose of earth and red fruits. Balanced with good acidity and length and surprisingly dry. Very good wine, not sure if it’s worth the coin, but fun to taste.
Leonetti Merlot 2007
Buddy likes new world wines, so this hit the spot to start, deep and dark fruits, smooth and well made wine. Not my favorite with cuisine, but again shows how much more depth and tannin Merlot has in WA vs. Cabernet.
