Tony’s suggestions in Anderson Valley reminded me of a new one I tried when up there recently. Phillips Hill makes one in a very floral style. Smelled like Viognier to me. For people who prefer a more floral subtle style.
I was impressed. Definitely in that leaner more acidic style. I liked the Corby for a simpler acidic dinner Pinot though I think it’s priced a bit high. The Oppenlander stuff really impressed me though with good concentrated fruit across a balanced mineral palate with a good dose of tannin. Bought an 07 to lay down for a few years. Definitely a bottling to keep an eye on for those that dig some of the other stuff coming out of there.
Forgot about the Corby. I ended buying a couple each of the Oppenlander and Toulouse and then 1 each of the Corby and Marguerite IIRC. Defniitely nice wines.
Sleight of Hand - The Magician. Great dry gewurz, super crisp and fruity, nice tropical fruit and floral aromatics - I’ve enjoyed both the 2007 and 2008.
As someone who usually sticks to Alsace for Gewurztraminer (Weinbach, Mann, Gassmann) and who has not tasted many domestic ones, how do the domestics compare in say, viscosity, longevity, floral notes, etc?
