So, I have been eying and gauging this Cali Cab for a while now.
When I first looked at Hunnicutt a year ago it was 69.99 at Total Wine.
Now it’s 79.99
Imagine that!
LOL
But it’s a wine that is made by the son of a guy that has made some nice wines.
Kirk Venge.
His Dad made a wine that I liked.
Saddleback Cellars 2010 Cabernet.
Anyone have any experience with this Cab?
The reviews on Vivino were like 4.6 when I first looked a year ago and are around that now.
Let me know if you have had it.
For opulent well-priced cabs I buy wines from kirk venge and mike smith. For that 50-70 price point, its hunnicutt napa and venge silencieux for kirk venge. For mike smith, i like myriad napa, quivet napa, and scarlett cab. I feel like both winemakers’ wines drink above their price points.
There are many great cabs above 100, but it’s hard when you go under 100.
Others I like as well are lewis mason’s and river’s marie napa.
But ya when I get to around 100, i can start to throw in bevan, realm, and other high end producers.
No worries! Just know Nil’s stuff will be more classiC and restrained in style compared to Kirk’s wines. I appreciate classic style as well, but those recommendations are for the more extracted end of the spectrum.
