How would you spend $1000/year on Zinfandel

6 bottles each from Bedrock, Carlisle, Ridge and Turley. Pick your favorites.

Fields Family are great - have not had St Amant.

I love Mike and Jay along with the wines at Carlisle. My wife does like them at all anymore. We’ve shifted the zin dollars to Scherrer and Hartford Family. I still buy the SC Carlisle at retail now for when she is at book club.

Has no one suggested a 4-bottle allocation of Downstream yet?..

$1k on zin … easily! Like many others above: Bedrock, Bucklin, Carlisle, and Turley for me.

Once & Future -'18

Maybe throw in a little Dark Matter as well

Damn, totally forgot about Hartford for some reason - GREAT call! Their zins have crept up into the upper echelon for me sitting alongside Bedrock, Carlisle, Ridge, and Once & Future

Scherrer futures would be necessary. Some Ridge Geyserville, the rest split between bedrock and Carlisle

Lamborn.

So many good ones - Biale, Turley (duh), Radio Coteau, Williams Selyem … not sure how I would limit myself to a grand!

Dutton Goldfield
Lamborn
Ridge
Carlisle
Navarro
Scherrer
Tofanelli
Rafanelli
Cedarville

Easy:
Carlisle (Montafi, Carlisle, Pagani) $400
Bedrock (Bedrock, Lorenzo’s, Monte Rosso) $400
Ridge (Geyserville, Lytton) $400
Bucklin (Old Hill) $200

Oops. Not so easy. Didn’t even order some every day Sonoma drinkers. Yeah, guess it’s hard to only spend $1K on Zinfandel each year.

This is a SOLID list - well done!

Would be very, very hard not to get any Bedrock Dolinsek and Carlisle Papera though

I would buy as much Beekeeper as I could.

I’d buy a mixed case of Storybook Mountain Estate Reserve & Eastern Exposure, and a mixed case of Ridge Lytton Springs & Geyserville.

I have three cases of zin that Have come in during the past 2 months. All are 2018s which are supposed to the best in a decade.

Rafinelli
Turley
Limerick Lane

Ridge 2018s are just starting to come out. I started drinking Lytton Springs in the early 1980s so it has a lot of sentimental value.

Another one I like a lot that I don’t see mentioned here is Brown Napa.

There so many different styles and levels of quality, you really need to do some tasting.

Bedrock
Ridge
Carlisle
I spread the above around all the vineyards but make sure to always get some Ridge Lytton Springs & Geyserville.
The above probabally puts my personal budget pretty close to $1K, who am I kidding I’m sure it is over that. [wow.gif] I might toss in some Turley or Limerick Lane but I’d be at $2K pretty fast.

You have met the requirements - Welcome to Wineberserkers!

Your topic is very interesting. I think of myself as a zinfandel connoisseur. But zinfandel represents less than 3% of my cellar and nowhere near the financial commitment that you seem to be making on it. In fairness, I was much more interested in zinfandel 5-10 years ago, and the fact that I’ve given up on so many producers as too big or not my style is the reason that I own/spend low amounts on it today. As others have mentioned, Carlisle and Scherrer are names worth looking into that aren’t on your list. I would suggest getting on the Scherrer mailing list, inquire about older bottles for sale, and if you are so inclined, also buy a futures mixed case of their OMV and Shale Terrace, assuming you are willing to hold them for a few years before drinking. Ridge is definitely worth seeking out, both younger and older bottles to give you persepective.
